Indeed, amazing how you can buy an airline for 180.000.000 euros and dump it 5 years later for close to zero…

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective
I guess LH is in enough troubles itself.
Try to book a ticket via expedia, TK will do the same flight for 30% less, one of the gulf carriers will take you there at 50% less, at least.
It's just impossible to compete these guys, even if we would fly for free

Re: Jetairfly third cheapest airline in the world
Good management takes this into account and wouldn't let a train or an airplane do 10 times a day a route if it's almost empty just for the sake of it. Because that would be a very expensive and useless way to 'support' the economy...no? You certainly have a point. Often we are only talking about o...

Re: Jetairfly third cheapest airline in the world
That's just my point, should we consider a service as a business on its own? It's been a good exercise to privatise (clean up) but fi the US has been to extremes on this issue resulting in a completely outdated highway network, outdated airports and a very limited railway network. Airlines in the US...

Re: Jetairfly third cheapest airline in the world
I wish JAF and TC all the best if they want to join the regular airline business but I hope they realise that they are starting to play a risky game, certainly in these challenging times. I can only imagine the difference in lease prices for an older 767 vs a brand new 787 but these babies will need...

Re: Jetairfly third cheapest airline in the world
Why is there a train 10 times a day from one city to another? Why are there cargo vessels cruising from one port to another? Why are there a dozen of flights daily from one major hub to another? Just to serve the economy. Looking at aviation as a business is the same as thinking about why the highwa...

Re: Jetairfly third cheapest airline in the world
That's why it is called a charter airline. The flying part is a small part of a holiday package offered by a tour operator which charters the flight. Ryanair can be called a charter airline as it is chartered by different regions and cities. Just the same story as to compare ambulance flights with c...

Re: 700 jobs threatened at Brussels Airlines?
On the upside I think we will not see SN go into bankrupt any time soon as this would rather open options than close...don't think this suits LH's strategy.

Re: 700 jobs threatened at Brussels Airlines?
That's the major disadvantage mid eastern companies have. If the EU puts a halt on their slots, what are we gonna lose as EU airlines, nobody needs to fly to the desert anyway. Major hubs with economical or political importance are Hong Kong, Signapore etc. And that is why you need bilateral agreeme...

Re: 700 jobs threatened at Brussels Airlines?
Any eastern and certainly middle eastern company has realised by now that they will not be allowed to just fly into Europe and fetch all the long haul pax without bilateral agreements. They will need foothold in Europe as to secure their future as Europe is their nr1 market. Apart from securing Brus...

An association with fi Etihad would make much more sense with a brighter future towards the growing east. Imagine; Etihad Europe as a SERIOUS partnership. Re: 700 jobs threatened at Brussels Airlines?
Where can we find the cost structure that everyone seems to know from its competitors... Is that published somewhere?? Maybe in the central economical book in the library of Zaventem?? Yeah right. People at TC, good people, have never dared to react to the changes in order not to loose their job. In...
