Before the Belugas Airbus used Super Guppies, which were based on the Boeing Stratocruiser, which in turn was based on the B-29. I believe the Belugas were inspired by the Guppies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aero_Spacelines_Super_Guppy Some of the Super Guppies were built here at KSBA (Santa Barba...

Airbus was also said to be working with a German university on something similar... but with today's engines, you can't reduce much noise right? I don't believe this is necessarily right. I attended an air show Sunday at Edwards AFB. One of the planes which gave a flying demonstration was a F-117 N...

Another question: why does my plane go in overspeed at 310 kts flying at 36000feet ? At Flight Level 360 (36000 ft) Mach 0.85 = about 290 kts IAS, which is a TAS of about 488 kts. I got this information from flying the B747 straight and level at FL 360 using the autopilot in FSX. If this is correct...

Edwards AFB Air Show
Some digital photos of the show may be viewed at:
http://www.stubchaer.com/Air_Show/index.htm
(note: the picture quality is variable, as some of the flying events took place just 45 minutes before sunset and the light was dim, but I thought something was better than nothing)

707 Roll
Remember, it was a barrel roll, not a snap roll. I saw Tex on TV saying it was a 1g roll, with no extra stress on the plane's structure. (It probably was a good tedt for the fuell system, though).

Note that the Lufthansa spokesman said 747 freighters they are considering must have a nose door and that they are not interested in the A380F.

re: sn-remember's post: I've read that putting the jet engines farther out on the wing can actually reduce the bending moment the wing has to be designed for. The aerodynamic lift of the wing of course has to be equal to the weight on the aircraft, including the engines. With the engines farther out...
