KLM and Pegasus sign Code Share agreement

Postby sn26567 on 22 May 2013, 13:18

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Pegasus Airlines announced today that they have signed a code share agreement effective for sales May 27th and for travel June 3rd, 2013. Passengers will benefit from quick and easy transfers between Pegasus flights and KLM flights through Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen airport and Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport.

The agreement enables KLM to market under KLM flight numbers flights between Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen airport and Amsterdam, and flights between Izmir and Amsterdam, for connections to any of the 150 destinations on the KLM network.

Also an interline agreement has been concluded, allowing passengers to travel on a single KLM ticket between any airport served by Pegasus in Turkey and any airport served by KLM.

Mrs. Güliz Öztürk, Senior Vice President Commercial of Pegasus Airlines and Mr. Pieter Bootsma, Executive Vice President Marketing Revenue Management & Network for KLM, announced this agreement at a press conference held in Istanbul on May 22.

As Turkey’s leader low cost airline company flying to 71 destinations in 29 countries, we are very proud to start a partnership with KLM, one of the long-established airline companies. With this partnership, we will be able to share Pegasus experience with everyone who wants to visit Turkey by flying with KLM through Amsterdam with one ticket to more than 150 KLM destinations. (Mrs. Güliz Öztürk, Senior Vice President Commercial of Pegasus Airlines)

With this agreement KLM multiplies the options for its passengers to travel to and from anywhere in Turkey through the combined networks of KLM and Pegasus, benefitting from Schiphol as one of the best transfer airports in the world. It demonstrates KLM’s commitment to its customers in Turkey, where KLM has been operating since 1929. (Mr. Pieter Bootsma, Executive Vice President Marketing Revenue Management & Network for KLM)

KLM launches service to three new destinations

Postby sn26567 on 05 Apr 2013, 10:36

Summary
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines added three new destinations to its network this week, operating inaugural flights to Fukuoka in Japan, Manston Kent in the United Kingdom, and Ålesund in Norway.

Manston Kent, an alternative for London
On Tuesday, 2 April, a Fokker 70 set off to Manston Kent Airport in the United Kingdom. KLM will operate twice-daily service between Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Manston, the international airport of County Kent. With the addition of the destination Manston Kent, KLM extends its comprehensive network of services to cities in the United Kingdom. This brings the total number of British destinations to 14. The new destination offers passengers travelling to and from Kent an alternative to the busy roads around and airspace over airports in London.

First direct service between Fukuoka and Europa
On Wednesday, 3 April, a Boeing 777-200ER set off to Fukuoka in Japan. The KLM aircraft was welcomed by the governor of Kyushu and the mayor of Fukuoka. With this service, KLM becomes the first European airline to offer direct flights between Fukuoka and Europe. Fukuoka is KLM’s third Japanese destination, in addition to Tokyo and Osaka. This new route will raise the total number of weekly flights between Amsterdam and Japan to 21 during the 2013 summer season. The new service will be operated thrice weekly.

Ålesund service strengthens KLM’s position in Norway
On Thursday, April 4, a Fokker 70 set off to Ålesund in Norway. This brings the total number of KLM destinations in Norway to seven. The addition of Ålesund to the network further strengthens KLM’s position in Norway.

KLM’s Summer Schedule for 2013

Postby sn26567 on 06 Mar 2013, 15:55

Summary
The AIR FRANCE KLM Group Schedule
In continuing the 2012-13 winter schedule, AIR FRANCE KLM has opted for strict control of its capacity*, which will undergo only moderate growth in the 2013 summer season (March 31-October 26). In comparison with summer 2012, long-haul capacity will be raised by 2.4% and medium-haul capacity will be reduced by 2.1%.

* expressed in available seat kilometres (ASKs)

KLM
In the summer of 2013, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines plans capacity to grow by 3.3% on long-haul flights by using its fleet more efficiently by deploying newer aircraft, year-on-year. KLM plans capacity to grow in Europe by 6.5% as the result of using more seats and efficiency rather than the addition of new aircraft. KLM’s growth is not the result of more flight hours.

Once KLM phases out three of its MD-11s, they will be replaced by two Boeing 777-300s and one Airbus 330.

Clear results of Transform 2015 can be seen inside Europe. More seats per aircraft can be deployed in the Boeing 737s. KLM has also achieved greater efficiency by shortening turn-around times at Schiphol Airport.

KLM has chosen three new destinations for this summer: Fukuoka, Japan; Ålesund, Norway; and Manston, Kent in the United Kingdom. The flights to Teheran, Addis Ababa and Khartoum are being suspended due to disappointing commercial results.

Europe
The new destination of Manston offers travellers an attractive tourist destination as well as a hassle-free airport in the proximity of London. Ålesund has a fast-growing market, including the offshore industry. It is also an interesting tourist destination. Frequencies to Basel, Linköping, Lyon, Norwich, Prague, and Budapest will increase.

North America
Together with Delta Air Lines, partner in its transatlantic joint venture, KLM is strengthening its market position between North America and Europe. KLM will start flying larger aircraft to Calgary, replacing its MD-11 to Atlanta with the newer Airbus 330-300. Delta plans to increase its capacity to Amsterdam by more than 10%. In addition to flights each day to Atlanta and Detroit, customers can fly to New York JFK four times daily in the new schedule. Delta will fly to Atlanta three times a day and KLM one more time. KLM and Delta will each fly to New York twice a day. Only Delta will fly to Detroit.

What is more, during the summer of 2013, KLM will increase its frequencies to Los Angeles and Washington. From 13 May, seasonal operations to Dallas-Fort Worth will resume.

Central and South America
In the Caribbean region and South America, the Airbus 330-300 and Boeing 777 will also replace the MD-11. In the winter of 2012/13, KLM already started using these more fuel-efficient aircraft. The frequency to Rio de Janeiro will increase from four to five time a week and the growth to Panama, which started this winter, will continue with a daily flight through the summer. To absorb the summer peak business, KLM is adding a “circle flight” from Amsterdam to Curaçao and Bonaire.

Africa
This year, KLM introduced Lusaka (Zambia), Luanda (Angola) and Harare (Zimbabwe) to its destinations. Harare will be part of a circle flight between Amsterdam and Lusaka, Zambia.

The collaboration with Kenya Airways continues to be of great importance to KLM’s position in Africa. The twice-daily Kenya Airways/KLM service to Nairobi offers an ever-greater number of destinations in Kenya and surrounding countries in East Africa. KLM’s direct flights to Addis Ababa and Khartoum will stop. However, partner Kenya Airways will offer flights there via Nairobi.

Asia and the Middle East
On 3 April, KLM will initiate regular scheduled service to Fukuoka, Japan. This makes KLM the first airline to fly directly between Fukuoka and Europe. Fukuoka is KLM’s third Japanese destination after Tokyo and Osaka. KLM will increase its frequency to Tokyo from ten flights to eleven. With the start of the new route to Fukuoka, KLM will offer a total of 21 flights to Japan this summer. In so doing, KLM will rise to growing demand from Japan.

Teheran will be discontinued as a destination in the new schedule. In contrast, the number of flights to Almaty will increase this summer.

As part of KLM’s collaboration with Etihad Airways, there will be more flights to Abu Dhabi/Bahrain. From mid-May, Etihad will fly from its home base in Abu Dhabi to Schiphol under its own flag as well as that of KLM. Since last autumn, KLM has been offering five of Etihad’s destinations in Australia and Central Asia. It will add another thirteen in May.

The capacity on Asian routes will increase further with the help of new aircraft. B777-300s will operate more often on these routes.

New Interior in World Business Class
On 19 March, KLM will introduce its new cabin interior in World Business Class. KLM has brought in leading Dutch designer Hella Jongerius for the job. KLM will be changing all of WBC in the height of Dutch design, thereby combining Dutch roots with international allure. Besides revamping the interior design, Ms Jongerius will give an all-new look to the full-flat seat.

Fleet Development: CSR
As the new schedule becomes effective, KLM will extend its fleet with new and more fuel-efficient aircraft. In April, KLM will put an A330-300 into operation. A month later, a B737 will follow.

KLM Introduces Renewed European Product and Price Policy

Postby sn26567 on 13 Feb 2013, 16:44

KLM Introduces Renewed European Product and Price Policy
KLM offers passengers customised service in Europe

Summary
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will be introducing even more European destinations at competitive fares. With effect from 22 April 2013, KLM will be lowering its fare to €99 for 11 European destinations. KLM will then offer flights to more than 30 European destinations at this competitively priced fare. As such, KLM leads the pack in the Netherlands offering customers the broadest range of low-cost destinations.

Additionally, KLM will be separating baggage from the ticket price. This means that with effect from 22 April 2013, passengers in economy class will pay €15 for one piece of hold baggage per flight to destinations within Europe. Anyone who enjoys a relationship with KLM will be exempt. This includes customers who are – or become – members of the Flying Blue Frequent Flyer loyalty programme. This also applies to contracted Corporate Clients, BlueBiz members and passengers in possession of a fully flexible ticket (Y and B classes).

KLM is launching this renewed business model within Europe in response to changing customer behaviour: many existing passengers already travel without hold baggage in Europe. What’s more, passengers increasingly want to ‘customise’ their journeys. This can be achieved through paid options including seat choice, more legroom (Economy Comfort) and, in time, paid lounge access. Customers are free to choose.
