On 11-12 April 2017, 1 Wing Beauvechain (Bevekom) Belgian Air Component opened its military air base to the public for the 2017 Helidays. On the second day luchtzak.be editor Bart Noëth was present and took a few pictures.

Static display: from a drone race to the logistic village (vehicles of the land component, dog show), a show of remote controlled aircraft (RCA) and an exposition of 70 years Belgian Air Force. You could also find the different military jobs (land component, marine component and air component) but my boys got really interested looking at the Special Forces Group.

Activities for children: Gyroscope, obstacle course, climbing wall with a death ride, F-16 cockpit visit and a bouncy castle.

Air display: during the day you could enjoy different air displays: AH-64 Apache – Agusta A109 – NH90 – F-16 – Alouette III – H-3 Sea King

Tips:

  • As the small roads around Beauvechain are clogged up very fast it is suggested to come really early.
  • Register your visit up front, the queue at the entrance is huge but just a small line for registered visitors.
  • Lots of food stands, but also lots of hungry people, be prepared!
