To my knowledge, it was a French regional company that was part of the Air Lib group. It is probably defunct now.

sn26567's reply is not correct I think, as the french company was Flandre Air and operated EMB120's and Beech 1900's, so it looks like you have found something interesting.

Maybe the airline did not operate for long and perhaps only from Ostend but some of the older members may remember it. There are 2 pics of OO-SVL on JetPhotos.net taken at Dortmund whilst on a charter flight for Borussia Dortmund (football team!) to Rostock-Laage in 1991.

Dave,

There were two airlines: Flandre Air (French) and Flanders Airlines (Belgian).

Flanders Airlines (../FLN) was based in Wevelgem and had a short existence between 1889 and 1992. It had a maximum of 4 Fokkers 27. In 1990, BAF (British Air ferries) tried to take it over to rename it Flanders European, but the deal fell through.

Flandre Air (IX/FRS) based in Lille Lesquin had a longer life from 1976 to 2001. It was once part of the Air Liberté (Swissair) group and merged into Regional Airlines in 2001. It than had 3 ERJ-145, now sold out.

Belgian International Air Services (BIAS) was founded by C. Van Antwerpen around 1959. It first flew with Douglas DC-4/C-54 (a.o. OO-VAN, OO-RIC, OO-DEP). Then from the mid 60's came the Douglas DC-6B and A's (OO-GER, OO-OO-ABE, OO-ABG, OO-PAY/HEX). They took over the Libyan operations of Sabena (Linair) and acquired ex-Sabena DC-3/C-47's. In 1968 they operated a DH.114 Heron (OO-BIA) for Sabena on routes to Eindhoven and Rotterdam. Around 1970 they acquired two ex KLM DC-8's (OO-CMB and OO-AMI) which flew under the BIAS International name. They also flew a Caravelle (OO-CVA) in the early 70's. Most of these activities were (IT) charters. BIAS International became Delta International (CMB acquiring participations in BIAS and Delta Air Transport). BIAS flew also a Fokker Friendships for Sabena (OO-SBP). From the mid 70's they had no aircraft registered in Belgium anymore and they remained active as a leasing company, I guess working togethers with Danish Aero Lease (Fokker F27 PH-ARO, OY-DHW and OY-DNF). Afterwards, the company vanished slowly into history.

BIAS:
There are photos of BIAS airliners on the internet.
DC-6 OO-ABE on Airliners.net (in the second c/s).
DC-6 OO-PAY somewhere else (in the third c/s).
One of the DC-8's in BIAS International c/s on Airliners.net (OO-AMI or OO-CMB).

I have flown once with a BIAS DC8. It was in 1972, to Palma de Mallorca and back, and it was the price of a tombola, together with 2 weeks in an apartment there.

I did not take the registrations, a picture or anything else, but I remember clearly it was an ex-United, of which it still had part of the (old) livery.

More on Flanders Airlines:
Flanders Airlines was incorporated on 26/12/1989 after some kind of merger of Servisair Belgium and Frevag Airlines.
Flanders Airlines flew 6 Fokker F-27 Friendship:
(OO-FEA, OO-FEF, OO-FEG, OO-SVL, OO-SVM and OO-SVN) and
2 (Fairchild) Swearingen Metro:
(OO-VGC and OO-VGD).

The "DC-8" ex United of BIAS in 1970's was probably Boeing 720 OO-VGM of Delta Air Transport :!: , which flew in a United Airlines c/s for one year. Then they stopped flying it because it never made any "frank". That plane was later recalled as OO-Van Gaever Mistake.
The DC-8's of BIAS were ex KLM. The BIAS Caravelle was ex United Airlines (1971). But I think it always flew in the red BIAS c/s.

Didn't DAT also have a fleet of F28s leased from TAT with a French registration: F-Gxxx ? Example:
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/231294/M/

In my records:
F28-1000: F-GBBR, GBBS, GBBT, GECK
F28-1000C: F-GNZB
F28-4000: F-GDSK, GDUY

DAT also had Dutch-registered planes:
C47 PH-MAG
F28-1000 PH-VGR
DHC-8 PH-SDM

and 2 Danish ones:
N262: OY-BCO and BLV

and also an Italian BAE
BAe146-300: I-ATSC

May I also have a drink? :drink: :?:
