YAK 52 crash in Couvin

Post by Nevihta »

It looks like a YAK52 departed from Cerfontaine crashed in Couvin.
Apparently only one on board, survived the crash.

G-CBSS supposedly had a new engine installed very recently... :|
An engine not without problems :?:

No speculation, please.
Was it really that registration?

[[edit: registration seems to be confirmed by new pictures. Still, the engine trouble remains speculation. As stated over and again, we better wait for the official investigation report.]]

«Il venait d’équiper son Yak d’un nouveau moteur, sans doute était-il en vol d’essai»,
nous explique l’aumônier de l’aérodrome, le Père Bernard Sorel.
A l’aérodrome, aucun signal de détresse n’a été envoyé avant le crash.
...but indeed, let us wait for the outcome of the investigation by

The pilot is well, according to his daughter: a broken leg and some other minor injuries.

Dankuwel, meneer! :) So it was the engine, after all, carburettor most likely. Carburettors are vermin, yes indeed, as my old guru taught me. In this 21st century we really ought to insist on injection, even for petrol engines. But I must admit I fly behind a carburetted Rotax...

¿ That one should at least offer the option of the fuel-injected version of the Rotax? Frankly, I would have expected that to be the standard, even.
