Merger of XL Airways France and La Compagnie

Low cost airline XL Airways France and business only airline La Compagnie (France) merged to create the first French long-haul low-fare group, lead by CEO Laurent Magnin. La Compagnie’s founder and CEO, Frantz Yvelin, resigned.

The new Group will have a consolidated revenue of more than US$424.5 million.

On a more serious note: everybody would like to start low-cost longhaul, and rumours and intentions are plenty, but who will actually do so? Except of course worthy Loftleidir, so many moons ago...

BTW this was not even a typo, this was a (very slight) grammatical error.

And of course you should read "led" instead of "lead". But our readers are intelligent and corrected themselves. :)

Any other comment about the merger itself?

My main comment still stands: all and sundry are talking about long-haul low-cost, but who will act? To follow in the trails of Loftleidir (who, if I remember right, only made use of a political advantage in the days when commercial air transport was still highly regulated - no comparison to the current situation) ?

Loftleidir was one of the rare companies that was not a member of the IATA price-fixing cartel. The situation was quite different in those days.

Now the low-costs are slowly making in-roads in the transatlantic market: Norwegian, Wow, JetBlue,...
