According to De Tijd, Belgocontrol has posted an operational profit of €22M over 2015, the first time since 2008 the company managed to post black figures.
This is thanks to the increased revenues from payments made by the federal government for air traffic services at the regional airports, which so far were enjoying a free lunch.
The aim of the CEO is to consolidate the positive trend and then to make use of the profit margins to invest in more and better infrastructure.
Results over 2016 will be impacted by the drop in traffic volume in the wake of the attacks on Brussels, however.
