About the very low flow of Russian tourists, that goes back to another story: the downing of a Russian Su-24 by a Turkish fighter jet. And here is the latest news from "Russian Aviation":
Full resumption of Russian tourist flow to Turkey possible in 2017
Full resumption of tourist flow from Russia to Turkey is not expected until 2017, Russian Transport Minister Maksim Sokolov said Thursday.
Russia and Turkey discussed the resumption of charter flights and the tourist flow during a recent visit of a high-ranking Turkish delegation to Moscow.
"I think that the full resumption of tourist flow is possible only next year," Sokolov said in an interview with Rossiya 24 television.
Sokolov stressed that Turkish airports must enhance security screening at their facilities to meet international standards.
Charter flights between Russia and Turkey have been suspended following the downing of a Russian Su-24 combat plane by the Turkish air force in November 2015.

What to expect? Well this was rather unexpected: Turkish Airlines is now handing out government propaganda flyers to unsuspecting passengers:

"...Turkish Airlines has decided to rename its CIP Lounge at Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport after the victims of the failed coup attempt of July 15. THY chair İlker Aycı said the company decided to rename Lounge Istanbul the “July 15 Democracy Heroes Lounge.”. “This victory which will be named in the history of democracy is also undoubtedly a source of inspiration for oppressed nations. To commemorate this historic day, we have decided to rename the Lounge Istanbul which is used by passengers holding Business Class and Elite Card at the International Terminal at Istanbul Ataturk Airport as the July 15 Democracy Heroes Lounge,” Aycı wrote in his column in the airline’s SkyLife magazine..."

Me thinks "the Erdogan Lounge" - or "the President and Commander-In-Chief H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Lounge" would have been better, when referring to the 15th July.

The least they could have added was a "sorry" to their passengers who got stuck those days... But I guess the Ministery of Propaganda didn't care about that...sn26567 wrote:What to expect? Western tourists and businessmen alike might be avoiding Turkey these days, but at least there is one reason for satisfaction in the country: Russian tourists are coming back!
Travel agencies say Turkey steadily winning back Russian tourists
Russians’ enthusiasm in travelling to Turkey is gradually increasing, the press service for the Association of Tour Operators in Russia (ATOR) reported on Monday.
"Despite the country’s unfolding developments, Russians’ demand for Turkey is growing," the press office said in a statement on the ATOR website. "Travel agencies say that flight destinations by Russian and Turkish air carriers between Russia and Turkey have expanded after this route was re-opened."
According to the association, airlines operating regular flights to Turkey’s resorts continue to reinstate their routes.
"As of early August, flight destinations between Russia and Turkey have widened. Prior to the aborted coup it was only possible to get to Antalya by direct flights from Moscow, Novosibirsk and Krasnodar. Now, flights to Dalaman and Bodrum have become available to Russians following the resumption of regular flight service in late July," the ATOR said.
The Russian Federal Tourism Agency earlier reported that its head, Oleg Safonov, will discuss Russian tourists’ safety at Turkey’s resorts with his Turkish counterparts in Ankara on August 2 and possible resuming charter flights between both countries.

Turkish Airlines CFO to court for dismissal
Coskun Kilic, the laid off CFO of Turkish Airlines, goes to court. He is one of tens of thousands of people in Turkey who were dismissed for alleged involvement in the failed coup. 211 Turkish Airlines workers were victims of the purges in the country.
According to the Washington Post, Kilic claims in the lawsuit that he wants to get his job back, or at least a well-founded explanation of his dismissal. Kilic says that additionally the reputation of Turkish Airlines is harmed by the ruthlessly dismissing of staff because of alleged ties to the Gülen movement, which is responsible for the coup according to the Turkish President Erdogan.

Re: Failed coup d'etat in Turkey! What to expect?
That would be a direct breach of the all-important basic concept of "separating the three powers" - getting Turkey further than ever from the much desired EC membership. But this gets us dangerously close to discussing politics...

And not only Pegasus, also Turkish Airlines feels the consequences:
Turkish Air Postpones Dozens of Airbus, Boeing Jet Deliveries
(Bloomberg) --
Turkish Airlines said it plans to postpone dozens of Airbus Group SE and Boeing Co. narrow-body jets as it contends with a turbulent travel market following terror attacks in Istanbul and Europe.
The carrier is delaying deliveries of 39 of the upgraded single-aisle planes originally scheduled for 2018 to 2020, the company said. Turkish is raising its 2022 deliveries for the workhorse jets to 30 from the six it had previously planned.
The company didn’t elaborate on the models that will be deferred, but it has ordered 92 Airbus A321neo, 65 of Boeing’s 737 Max 8 and 10 of the U.S. planemaker’s Max 9 models. Turkish, based in Istanbul, said it was reducing flight frequencies and shifting to smaller planes on “demand-challenged routes” after posting a second-quarter loss of 656 million liras ($215 million) in August.

Turkish Airlines is changing the names of 8 Boeing 737 aircraft, to honour the areas whose inhabitants fought in the streets against the coup. These Boeings now carry the following names: Bestepe, Sarachane, Cengelkoy, Kavacik, Kazan, Acibadem, Atisalani and Golbasi.
Not sure that this will make passengers come back to TK...

And today rockets have hit Antalya, although not making any victems and very low damage, another hit for the already struggling tourism...
Re: Failed coup d'etat in Turkey! What to expect?
The tourism is picking up slowly. The Turkish Government needs to do more advertising around the world and promote Turkey again.
Last week Bodrum airport has received 8 extra charter flights from Europe. Normally Bodrum should be quite now but the operators in Bodrum are saying they are booked solidly until end of this month. One of the hotel operator told his current guests are British 70%, Dutch 20% and Belgians 10%.
I guess they don't want to miss the bargains....
