We are not going that far. But as a courtesy to our readers, we ask people who post in other languages than English to add a summary in English.

Charleroi Airport has received a building permit for the construction of terminal T2. The Walloon Minister for Planning has announced this Wednesday, reports news agency Belga.

The new terminal should ensure that among other things during the morning hours, the passenger flow will be smoother, said Mr Di Carlo Antonio in a press release. The new terminal of twenty million is an intermediate solution. There was another plan but this did not take place because the cost of EUR eighty million.

In an interview (accessible only for registered users) with La Libre Belgique this Saturday, BSCA CEO Jean-Jacques Cloquet announced that the airport intends to build a 120-room hotel on the site and allow passengers staying at airport hotels to check their baggage the day before their departure.

Among other statements:
  • Zaventem is not a Belgian airports (contrarily to Charleroi): it is owned by Canadians and Australians... BRU is becoming a gigantic commercial centre aimed at profit (100 million euros after tax), whereas CRL is aimed at service to passengers (1 million euros profit)
  • CRL will register 6,900,000 passengers in 2015, 200,000 more than previous record year 2013
  • A new Terminal 2 of 6000 m² will operate during peak hours and will be able to handle 3 to 4 million more passengers in early 2017
  • Brussels Airlines repeatedly refused politely to start flying from CRL. The situation is quite different in France, where Air France does fly from regional airports
  • CRL will develop business aviation. The airport is easier to reach than BRU during peak hours, when the Brussels Ring is often blocked

A few remarks... profits after or before subsidies?
AF doesnt fly to Beauvais either...
CRL is easily reachable... from all directions but the North... where the action is...
A new terminal? And what about the old one?

Cheers,
