ASL Aviation Group (Ireland), partly owned (51%) by the Antwerp-based Compagnie Maritime Belge, has completed the acquisition of the Swiss-based Farnair Group. This group includes Farnair Switserland, Farnair Hungary, Quikjet (India) and partly-owned K-Mile Air (Thailand). They operate a fleet of 734's, ATR72's, ATR42's and Beech 1900's. Most of them cargo.

ASL Aviation Group also includes Safair (South Africa), Air Contractors (Ireland) and Europe Airpost (France). Including Farnair it operates and partly owns a fleet of over 100 aircraft, most of them cargo/combi/quick change aircraft.

Appointment of 'white man' Mueller causes Malaysian storm
Critics call on government to scrap appointment of outgoing Aer Lingus chief executive Christoph Mueller

The announcement that outgoing Aer Lingus chief executive Christoph Mueller will lead a revamp of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has caused a political storm. Several local critics of the move called on the Malaysian government to scrap his appointment as he is a foreigner.

Mahathir bin Mohamad, who was prime minister of Malaysia for 22 years until 2003, criticised the appointment, which was announced on Friday by Khazanah Nasional, the Malyasian sovereign wealth fund that is majority owner of the struggling airline.

According to local reports, Mr Mahatir maintains the job should have gone to a Malaysian.

Khazanah wants Mr Mueller to start on March 1st, even though he is contracted to stay with Aer Lingus until the start of May.

Eurocontrol NOP @16:00 :

There has been a technical failure at London ACC. Engineers are working on the problem and more information will be given when available.
Only already airborne traffic will be accepted.

Can't help thinking about those flying LHR - BRU, hoping to leave on time before Belgian ATC closes on Monday

The EASA - FAA International Aviation Safety Conference will take place from 10 to 12 June 2015 in Brussels. There might be some interesting visitors at the airport.

Celebrating the re-launch of an icon.

Eastern Airlines was the largest competitor of Delta at their common hub Atlanta. It was a respected airline which I flew more than once between New York or Baltimore and Miami in the late seventies. It was the first US airline to buy from Airbus (the A300).

And then it went bankrupt 23 years ago, after several years of difficulties.

Now, Eastern Air Lines are back after 23 years. The first flight just arrived at Miami Airport, where its brand new 737-800 was welcomed by a water cannon salute.

The livery hasn't changed at all in 50 years...

Something small, but I've noticed that since November, SN has a facebook page which is more dedicated to its African market "Brussels Airlines Africa". Contrary to the normal page, all messages are both in English and in French and more dedicated to their long haul product and African services.

In the same way as KLM has a Facebook page KLM Eastern Africa...

KLM started the game and SN had to follow suite: that's the rule of competition!

With KLM always being on the front row when it comes to social media, they have that Eastern Africa page since the summer of 2011, altough it took until 2013 before they became really active on it.
For KLM it also helps they are such a well known airline and one of the best known brands on social media (in the aviation industry), no wonder they already have over 112,000 likes on that page :P
