Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
The permit is in for indefinite time.
There will be no ban on nightflights.
As from 2032, the max amount of flights per year will be 240.000. Also more silent weekendnights as from that year and a reduction of 30% of the most loudest flights during the night.
There are many other conditions but they don't have a big impact

Anyways, good news. Hopefuly there will not be too much opposition against the permit.
Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
Indeed, very good news. Let's hope that this was the needed signal to start preparing the further expansion.Conti764 wrote: ↑29 Mar 2024, 15:20As expectedAtlantis wrote: ↑29 Mar 2024, 11:03 The permit is in for indefinite time.

It will be a signal too to DHL to start using more newer, modern airfleet to BRU. The A300 will be banned in 2 years, the same for the older B747 (this one in general)
I hope they will use the opportunity to build a soundwall around the whole airport.
Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
In Belgium nothing is easy..I expect that some action groups will oppose and go to court..If a Brussels judge has to decide as in the past, we can expect new problems..
Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
There will be a sound wall, at least at the most sensitive areas. And there will also be a soundproof hangar to test jet engines.

Indeed, like I wrote already in another topic, the hangar will be build central on the airport
Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
And the first reaction is there from the Brussels minister of environment, Mr Moron.
He will analyse the next coming weeks the new permit. If it is too much against health, he will ask the Brussels government to appeal.
But you can be sure that they will do this.

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
Also BRU gave a first reaction after analyzing the new permit.
The airport is afraid, with those severe restrictions, which were also named by Voka, that the airport cannot grow after 2032.
Those restrictions are not in line with the European guidelines. BRU can go in appeal just like AMS is/was doing

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
Let's the airport grow till 400.000 mouvments but in God's name close the airport at night Brussels Airport is in a very high densely populated region it's logic not to fly at night!!!!Atlantis wrote: ↑29 Mar 2024, 18:42 Also BRU gave a first reaction after analyzing the new permit.

Which means that you will put 1.200 people on the street. 1.200 families who you want to give an uncertain time.lumumba wrote: ↑29 Mar 2024, 20:37Let's the airport grow till 400.000 mouvments but in God's name close the airport at night Brussels Airport is in a very high densely populated region it's logic not to fly at night!!!!Atlantis wrote: ↑29 Mar 2024, 18:42 Also BRU gave a first reaction after analyzing the new permit.

Belgium is an export country. You cannot put everything during the day. According to your plan, be sure that also a lot of people will complain during the day.
What is flying during the night is cargo. During the day is a small percentage, but in the evening and night is huge. Cargo is totally different than pax. In cargo you can have long delays which means that they can arrive during the day, late evening or night. But you also have cargo with high values or perishable goods. Thus is time and temp sensitive.
This is a whole chain who is involved and this is not something which you can change from today to tomorrow.
Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
Why should BRU be an exception when it comes to ban night flights when BER, FRA, MUC, GVA and ZRH have all five (different) restrictions on night flights. Taking the major airports for the LH Group, only VIE operates 24/24.
I fully understand that night flights may be important for BRU, but sleep quality, too.
One of the problems is the high number of housing building permits which have still been granted over the last decades around BRU or along the flight paths used for take off and landing. Local and non local politicians again looked at their immediate interests only, and on federal level there never has been a holistic long-term vision for BRU.
Let's see if "somebody" appeals the permit or if again a compromise à la belge will triumph.

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
If it's that important than we need to invest in buying over or soundproofing homes in the line like Erps Kwerps Kortenbrg etc.. and make them land and take off the same way or another less densely populated route...Atlantis wrote: ↑29 Mar 2024, 23:13Which means that you will put 1.200 people on the street.

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
It happens sometimes in BRU,sure if it's not possible you have to use another runway it's it just an idée already used at other airports.

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
If they would close the airport for the night, it would mean that they will kick out their main customer, DHL. Than you have a DHL bis.lumumba wrote: ↑29 Mar 2024, 20:37Let's the airport grow till 400.000 mouvments but in God's name close the airport at night Brussels Airport is in a very high densely populated region it's logic not to fly at night!!!!Atlantis wrote: ↑29 Mar 2024, 18:42 Also BRU gave a first reaction after analyzing the new permit.

The model of DHL is based on having night flights, delivery as from the next morning.
But sure that LGG would love it, bcs they could attract a huge fish after Fedex left for CDG. Other cargo carriers would follow them as they work together with DHL to forward their cargo and vs.
You cannot compare BRU with other European airports. The freight, bcs this is what we are talking about, is very different from other airports. We have pharma, this is something what other airports don't have or in very little amount. BRU is a worldwide player in pharma export to the whole world. This is time and temperature sensitive, the night is very important for this industry to have available flights
Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
Thank you, Steven.
What alternative options does Bru Airport have for development? The existing terminal, with its offices and LCT, seems impractical. Expanding the A-pier appears promising, but what's the progress on these plans? Are there additional options in Brussels, given BRU's current capacity constraints? gb whatsapp Pro

The now abandoned BRU 2040 renders showed a 'pier C' around the current satelite building.smits wrote: ↑01 Apr 2024, 08:37 Thank you, Steven.

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
Reminds me of the visit of the A Pier that we organized a couple of days before its opening.
The Airport Tour guide, a former FE at SN, pointed at the noisewall in Steenokkerzeel and said it had been built so that if the neighbours make noise during a barbecue party it doesn’t disturb the pilots in the cockpit.
