Re: Replacement of Brussels Airlines' Boeing & Avro RJ fleet
Maybe they are starting a rejuvenation cure?
Re: Replacement of Brussels Airlines' Boeing & Avro RJ fleet

Re: Replacement of Brussels Airlines' Boeing & Avro RJ fleet
Hi,
Maybe the need for a new topic as the Boeings are gone now, the avros soon, I guess, and the replacement of the Airbus OO-SSP the topic is dated, plus fifty pages... a new one ?

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Why do they proceed to OO-SSP retirement? Will this one be replaced by 1 another A319 or A320?
It may be the oldest A319 but most of their A330s are older...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
It's the only A32F in the fleet with CFM56-5A engines, the other ones all have -5B engines.brusselsairlinesfan wrote:Why do they proceed to OO-SSP retirement?

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
And what exactly is that difference in engines about, if I may ask?
Because I know there are some airbus planes with engines from another manufacturer and they do look very different (I think they are on Lufthansa's A321 for some reason if I am not mistaken, as well as on British AW), but in case of this Brussels plane, it looks like the 'normal' Airbus engine to me?
I did notice not so long ago this plane didn't get the cabin retrofit to bring in the new seats however and still has the thick leather seats from the past, so I assume it means they are at least thinking of getting rid of it?

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
The CFM56-5B is an updated version of the CFM56-5A, so obviously operators prefer the -5B and having one aircraft with -5A engines only adds complexity because there are some differences between the two.Inquirer wrote:And what exactly is that difference in engines about, if I may ask?

The other engine type you are talking about are the IAE V2500 engines, it is a JV of Pratt & Whitney (US and it's Swiss subsidiary P&W Aero Engines International), MTU Aero Engines (Germany) and Japanese Aero Engine Cooperation (which include Kawasaki and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as the best known companies). These are available on the A319/A320/A321, but SN only has CFM engines.
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Externally you can tell the difference between the -5A and -5B engine by the fan spinner ande the engine anti-ice outlets...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
OO-SSI msn 3895 coming from Aegean should arrive in February...
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I can imagine that OO-SSI will replace the old Oo-SSP.
Are the 2 A319 en 1 A320 aircraft to join the fleet in 2015 already identified ?

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Actually, I think that the OO-SSH is the one to replace the OO-SSP, OO-SSI with be the 17th A319, part of the expantion.
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I am not sure if OO-SSP will leave the family

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
So how will look the fleet this summer, how many Avro, A32S, A330 and wet lease. This is nice to see our company growing and growing, but there are some aircraft starting to be really old and no fuel efficient at all. Also in ter of maintenance. It's time fore the Avro and the OO-SSP to leave the fleet, same thing for some of the old A330. They really need to be replaced
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I think this year will be a year of moderate expansion of the EU network/fleet and further improvements of several other (efficiency and service related) things to make sure 2015 ends with a profit. It's time to show to LH that SN has the potential to be profitable as an 'independent' carrier to persuade them to take over the remaining 55% and then it will be time to get LH on board to arrange replacements for e.g. the ageing long haul fleet.
In terms of fleet I think 2015 will be more of a transition year without major changes (except for some leaving, some adding, but nothing big). 2016-2017 and onwards will be more interesting.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
So regarding the press released about the partnership Thomas Cook / Brussels Airlines
SN will soon introduce a new A320 and two new A319s (the 17th and the 18th), whilst OO-SSP will be retired
The 12-aircraft strong Avro fleet will be maintained throughout the summer and will be completely retired between the end of 2015 and the end of 2016
In other work the fleet of SN will consist in:
5 A330-300
3 A330-200
18 A319 (16 last year)
7 A320 (6 last year)
12 Avro (13 last year)
2 Dash Q400 (wet lease from flybe) (3 last year)
1 ERJ145 (wet lease from BMI)

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
so we already know that one A320 is coming from Thomas Cook and one A319 from Agean. Where is the other A319 coming from?

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I will assume maybe the second A319 might also be from Aegean, I do not see them holding onto 1 in their fleet, especially as the new 7 A320's will begin to arrive, but that is just a hunch.
