Re: Africa West Cargo to start Lomé - Brussels
Thanks, Rutger.
How come Atlantis did not come up with this breaking news?
http://www.africawestcargo.com/index.html
http://www.africawestcargo.com/photos.htm
Operating with a 742 from Atlas?
These are new flights or are they perhaps moving their flights from OST to BRU?

"Dat Afrikaanse netwerk wordt gevoed door twee à drie wekelijkse B747-vluchten van Oostende naar Lomé."

Re: Africa West Cargo to start Lomé - Brussels
Rumour say that the Atlas we see in LGG since 2 weeks or so is for the same company.
Do they hesitate between the 2 airports ? (to leave AMS)
EDIT : it seems that africa west cargo is flying to LGG using southern air a/c. It's still a mistery about the Atlas a/c.
EDIT2 : not so long ago, there were flying to BRU using an An-12 :
http://www.oagcargo.com/message.asp?message=33838 but WTA017 flown yesterday in LGG using N754SA.

There is a picture of an Atlas 742 on their website, but I can imagine that they have various contractors.Acid-drop wrote:It's still a mistery about the Atlas a/c.

It was the overnight connection to Abidjan and Accra that was operated with the An-12.
The BRU-LFW leg was probably operated by a Southern 742 as well.
Re: Africa West Cargo to start Lomé - Brussels
This is the opportunity for Brussels Airlines to work together with this new cargo carrier. Africa West Cargo flies right to the operational heart of SN in Africa. If they act well it would be a success.

Re: Africa West Cargo to start Lomé - Brussels
I still find very strange that they are flying to LGG and BRU in the same time
Re: Africa West Cargo to start Lomé - Brussels
It's now confirmed on the site of Africa West Cargo: 2 scheduled flights a week to Lomé on day 4 and 7 with a B747-200.
When I look further on their site then I noticed that the hub for Europe will be Brussels Airport. The warehouses for Europe is a wide range of European airports including of course also Brussels Airport.
The flight on day 4 will depart from Brussels Airport at 06.00h
The flight on day 7 will depart from Brussels Airport at 13.00H
Those flights are ex-BRU no cargo flights ex-Lomé.

Re: Africa West Cargo to start Lomé - Brussels
Southern Air is the one who flies for Africa West Cargo
Re: Africa West Cargo to start Lomé - Brussels
It seems then that BRU got the LGG flights ...
Or they fly to both airports in the same time, but it would be strange.

possible is also that:Acid-drop wrote:It seems then that BRU got the LGG flights ...

1) Southern decides which (sole) airport it uses and the goods are trucked to the final destination
- LGG for the goods of Ethiopian
- BRU for the goods of Africa West
2) Southern flies where the client wants them to fly (which is the most logical way to do) and so you will see Southern aircraft in both airports, depending on the client.
Re: Africa West Cargo to start Lomé - Brussels
Of course, I was talking about the Africa west cargo flights only.
Southern air does not decide anything. It's the company they fly for that decides.
Ethiopian choose LGG, Africa west, BRU, after some hesitations obviously.

Small overview: Africa West moved away from Schiphol and is now using Brussels Airport as new European Hub.

Re: Africa West Cargo to start Lomé - Brussels
Still strange to me : 2 flights a week for a hub is very low trafic.
Re: Africa West Cargo to start Lomé - Brussels
I'm convinced that they will grow in the future. They can't offer now multiple frequenties as the cargo traffic is very low at the moment. The end of the year is traditional low and there is the worldwide economic crisis.
Look at ET Cargo. They also started with some frequenties a week but they grow very fast with, at the end, two flights a day.
but like I said, with a strong cooperation with Brussels Airlines it would be a success, I hope.

Re: Africa West Cargo to start Lomé - Brussels
Africa West Cargo is using today a B747F of Atlas Air for their flight to Lomé. According to the timetable of Brussels Airport the flight is cancelled. The Atlas Air is still on the cargo apron.

Brussels Airport welcomes Africawest Cargo
Since November 23, Africawest Cargo operates a two weekly direct service between Brussels and Lomé, capital of Togo, using 747 aircraft. Ramp handling services are provided by Flightcare, with WFS providing warehouse handling. Swift airlines ECS - European Cargo Services - and its subsidiaries represent the carrier as GSSA throughout Europe.
Stephen Baldewyns of ECS is very pleased with the arrival of Africawest, who moved their Amsterdam freight operation to Brussels. "We are convinced that the geographic location of Brussels and its role as the capital of Europe make it an excellent choice for any freight operator. This choice for Brussels allows us to reduce the cost of trucking our freight. The presence of more than 100 cargo agents and other logistics partners at Brucargo, was another decisive factor".
The arrival of Africawest is a great addition to Brussels Airport's portfolio of African destinations. Philippe Fierens, Cargo Airline Marketing Manager at Brussels Airport explains: "Direct flights to Lomé are also important for the interline activities of other carriers, since Brussels serves as Africawest's European hub and Lomé is their African gateway.
Africawest Cargo operates from its main hub in Lomé (Togo). From this hub, it serves 16 worldwide destinations per week, accounting for about 1200 flights a year.
