It seems that VEX is going to open the war with SNBA...

Thanks a lot for the news-articles!

Looking at the Virgin Express summer 2003 timetable on their website, I observed that co-operation with SN BA will not be completely stopped. There will apparently still be two TV flights to Gothenburg and two to Stockholm operated by SN BA, in addition to those operated by Malmo Aviation.

Maybe the website is not yet correctly updated.

André
André,

I think that the website isn't correctly updated. SN BA doesn't want to cooperate with VEX anymore...

Indeed, the brands are totally different.

SNBA is a full service carrier while VEX is low cost (+ VEX is going to withdrawn from it's free drink service + sandwich).

Can you imagine that a passenger with an SN ticket steps on a VEX flight to FCO and doesn't get any service (unless he pays for it)?

It's a wise decision of SNBA...

As announced earlier on this website VEX will codeshare with Malmo Aviation

https://www.aviation24.be/modules.php?name ... =0&thold=0

Will VEX charge pax travelling with Malmo Aviation-tickets when they want food and drinks ?

You bet!! Because SN Brussels Airlines had to pay for alcohol (whine and beer) on VEX-flights!!

Now the story starts all over again... remember that Virgin Express announced on it's website that they felt sorry that some flights where operated by SN Brussels Airlines (it had something to do with a smaller aricraft duhhhh!!!)

Will they do the same with Malmo ? I hope not for Malmo

Not really Virgin Express, but its Australian sister Virgin Blue (they sometimes exchange planes):

Virgin Blue, which is fifty per cent owned by Richard Branson, is expected to put off its planned flotation on the Australian stock exchange. The current war in Iraq and the general difficulties in the aviation industry worldwide are blamed for the delay. The deal could total around A$500 million (US$300 million) making it one of the biggest floats in Australia this year, valuing the airline at A$2 billion (US$1.2 billion).

new feature on our online booking engine

Back to London!

Ever since Virgin Express left the Brussels-London market we have been receiving hundreds of letters from passengers who have been obliged to pay outrageous fares with other airlines. We couldn't be more thrilled to tell them that, thanks to a new co-operation with VLM Airlines, we are now not only back in this important market but we will be offering flights between Brussels and London City Airport, the airport closest to the city centre of London.

FLIGHT INFORMATION

- We will operate five daily flights. Click here to consult our timetable.

- Prices from Brussels to London City start at € 21 + € 40,75 taxes = € 61,75

- Flights will be operated as from 30th March 2003, reservations can already be made now. Click here to book your flight.

Partnership with Malmö Aviation

On 30th March 2003 the co-operation between SN Brussels Airlines and Virgin Express comes to an end. Instead, we have signed a new agreement with Malmö Aviation (a popular regional Scandinavian carrier). Thanks to this new agreement we will be able to serve our passengers even better - with an increased frequency, more capacity, more connecting opportunities, better customer service and a better on time performance.

FLIGHT INFORMATION

- Brussels - Copenhagen: three daily flights will be operated with Virgin Express (Boeing 737) aircraft. Prices start at € 49 + € 20,71 taxes = € 69,71.

- Brussels - Stockholm: three daily flights will be operated with Malmö Aviation aircraft (ARJ100) to Stockholm Bromma (the airport located closest to the city centre). Prices start at € 59 + € 20,71 taxes = € 79,71.

- Brussels - Gothenburg: two daily flights will be operated with Malmö Aviation aircraft (ARJ100). Prices start at € 59 + € 20,71 taxes = € 79,71.

Flights will be operated as from 30th March 2003, reservations can already be made now. Click here to book your flight.

New routes

Besides the many new co-operations we also start flying to two brand new destinations! As of 30th March we will operate flights to Palma de Mallorca in sunny Spain and to Bordeaux in beautiful France. And there's more! We will start flying between Amsterdam and Rome (in co-operation with Budgetair) thus also offering the Dutch passengers best value for money.

FLIGHT INFORMATION

- Brussels - Bordeaux: Daily flights

Prices start at: € 39 + € 20,71 taxes = € 59,71

Until 13th April we offer a special introductory fare of € 19 + € 20,71 taxes = € 39,71

- Brussels - Palma de Mallorca: Flights are operated on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. From July on we will serve this sunny destination once a day. Prices start at: € 59 + € 20,71 taxes = € 79,71

Until 13th April we offer a special introductory fare of € 19 + € 20,71 taxes = € 39,71

- Amsterdam - Rome Fiumicino: Flights will be operated daily. Prices start at: € 59 + € 23,94 taxes = € 82,94. Until the 14th of April we are offering a special introductory fare of € 39 + € 23,94 taxes = € 62,94

Flights will be operated as from 30th March 2003, reservations can already be made now. Click here to book your flight.

New! You can now choose what you eat on board

Imagine doing the following: you book your flight with another airline and spend a month's salary just to pay for it. At least you got the food, drinks and newspaper for free... right? Unfortunately not, as other airlines include the cost of your food in the price of your ticket (and add quite a bit to it), without even asking you if and what you want to eat.

At Virgin Express we have taken another approach: With the introduction of our new on board catering service we now offer you a choice. You can choose from a variety of quality fresh sandwiches, delicious chicken pasta salads and a range of snacks. This innovation allows us to offer the largest food choice at the best price-quality ratio that there is on any economy class flight in Europe.

But there is more! Soon you will also be able to buy a seat with extra legroom. We will keep you posted!

It's actually quite like buying a car; you can take a standard model and pay the minimum price or you can go for those add-ons that make the usage of that product just a bit more enjoyable…

At Virgin Express we constantly want to improve our service to you; this is why we recently implemented a new reservation system. Thanks to this system you can now find the best fares even more easily with the new forward or backwards search button. You want to go to Malaga sometime in July? Choose any day in that month and, if the prices don't suit you, you can just click 'previous day' or 'next day' until you have found the price that suits you best.

My idea is that VEX is on the good way to become the N°1 player on the Belgian market. All over Europe and the US, business passengers are changing from business seats to low-cost on short to medium flights. Business seats on short flights was good until the '90's but from then on the market has changed. Companies are not willing to pay lot's of money for a trip of 2 hours and prefer to pay for a low cost ticket. Last time I flew with a manager of the Fortis Bank and he told me that they don't buy business class tickets anymore for their staff. Only on long-haul flights they do.
SNBA is ten years behind the market and if they don't change quickly, they will not survive. On the commercial side they are nothing. Open a newspaper or magazine and you see publicity of KLM, Virgin, Ryanair, Alitalia... but no SNBA. Do they really think passengers will come without publicity?? Compare the load factor between VEX (81%) and SNBA (-50%) and you know who is making money...

Excin,

maybe less people fly business-class but business-travellers need to have flexible tickets. In business-class you will also have flexible tickets and access to the lounge.

SN Brussels Airlines has a very good flexible system in economy-class called flex-Y-time. They pay a lot of money (not as much as in business-class) for a ticket but at least when their meetings has a delay they can take the next flight. I cannot imagine that on Ryanair or Virgin Express you can take the next available flight...

ciao,

luchtzak

That's true, you have more flexibility with a business ticket but if you look worldwide the evolution is paying less on short flights. Companies are looking to lower their costs and are not willing anymore to pay €1000 more for a small flight.
Virgin Express is doing everything to be more flexible to passengers and are offering a good service. They are taking over a lot of the SNBA passengers and they will continue to do so if SNBA will not change. The service on board of VEX aircraft is very good with very professional cabin staff. At VEX, I didn't see the Cabin Chief eating an apple during boarding or kissing the captain in the cockpit with open cockpit door. At SNBA I did see this... These are small things but for a (business) passenger this means bad service ...

@EXCIN: did you hear the load factor of VEX in February? If yes, can you post him here please?

I don't see VEX becoming the number 1 player in brussels. OK, VEX has maybe higher load factors than SN BA, but SN BA offers more flexibility, as said by luchtzak, more destinations, and they offer better service on their flights (for sometimes even cheaper fares than VEX). I booked a return ticket for Nice on SNBA for the end of april. VEX tickets were quite expensive, probably because those flights were nearly fully booked; SN BA on the other hand had cheaper economy tickets, so it's not a difficult to choose between 'service' and 'no service at all' for nearly the same price.

But it's true that on the commercial side SN BA has a lot of work to do. A lot of people don't even know the name of the airline, so it's no surprise that a lot of passengers go for VEX, altough not always the cheapest.

Vex will be the biggest one (allready you see more VEX planes at the airport end in the air). End i see VEX becoming the number one soon. But SNBA is good to, but a young clever company like Virgin yes you got it. All that higher class feeling (Business) is old ,passè.People need like what VEX is doing now.Wait and see
