Austrian Airlines and Eurowings are repositioning themselves in Austria and reinforce their cooperation. The common goal is to strengthen the Vienna hub and expand decentralised traffic from the Austrian federal states.

Austrian will take over several Eurowings routes from Vienna, including Barcelona, Rome, Nuremberg, Birmingham, Zadar.

It makes the rumoured base closure of Eurowings in Vienna even more likely.

But if so why is Brussels Airlines not doing the same has Austrian Airlines.
I mean they should have the same approach why is Lufthansa accepting this?

Anyway if next year Austrian is doing much better than Brussels it will be their turn !

SN should focus on itself and not wait till Austrian is profitable to do cuts itself. OS is 'technically' doing better than SN - bigger transfer market. But their bread and butter (Balkans and Eastern Europe) is getting trashed. With Wizz Air and Lauda especially, the O&D will not necessarily pick OS (they are price sensitive clientele). PS also doing a restructuring and king of cheap fares will not help OS either.

Quite a better and more mature, professional analysis from OS-CEO than what we are used from CF.

The few interviews she gave (eg in De Tijd,...) were trivial. Never to the point.

SN's problem is also the many LCC's, but most of all the lack of a real strategy. With BRU as a central location in the richest part of Europe, one would expect a good HUB Strategy.
Fluent connections to the 50 biggest business places in Europe, e.g. would be an idea.
And a substantial intercontinental network. No need to fly to 5O places , but 10-12 destinations (beside de African ones) would make SN a good medium size player.

Objectively: no network (except Africa/ Europa), countless cancellations of long-haul flights (the latest dated yesterday), delays of up to 4 or 5 hours ... and indeed a CEO who interview does not seem not be up to scratch ... If SN had sufficient airplanes, a sufficient European and intercontinental network, did not cancel its flights recurrently and leave on time ... we would pay a minimum of price to fly. I would like to fly SN, I would like to fly from BRU, I'm living in Brussels, I appreciated SN but ...those times enough is enough. So, direction CDG...

Please, tell us something positive about SN at the moment.

I fly regularly to Asia, via Vienna.
Convenient airport, convenient flight schedules,...
Quite often the VIE-BRU flight is with SN.
Flight attendants (pilots) are Top.
European fleet looks also very up to the standard.
Also the check-in personel in BRU is Top. So are the lounge-people.
I am sure there are also very motivated people at other positions, and in the Middle-management.

There have been times, in Sabena days, that personnel was simply rude,unpolite, arrogant.

Problem, like in many companies, is the "Top-people" , CF is a miscast, no leadership , no talent, no charisma. Just close to CS.
CF is not capable apparently to analyze the real problems at SN, let alone that she will take the right measures. She looks very much like a lame duck. No power, no way to go.
LCC's and other , previously second class airlines like LOT, Aeroflot will certainly canibalize further the PAX numbers at SN.

AF274 to Tokyo left Paris Cdg, with a 2hrs of delay, yesterday evening: https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/af274

The list is too long to put all AF delaed flights yesterday, most of time over 1hr (Wuhan, Houston, Bamako, Toronto,....). Some AF flights to Italy were canceled, due to Air Trafic strike.

There are several reasons to delay a flight:

Technical pb on an aircraft
Bag search. It can take many time, when you have to off load an A330 or B777-300ER, when a pax is missing
Bad behaviour from some pax and you have to call the police
Bad weather
Crew arrive very late, due to an accident, on the road to the airport. Happened to me, while i was working with an Asian airline, at Paris Cdg, last week
Unattended baggage at the airport, and you have to clear out a part of the airport, while thousand pax were supposed to go through security check
Etc,

Austrian Airlines will wet-lease four A320 aircraft from Eurowings Europe from 1 January 2020 to serve the difficult routes from competitive Vienna at lower cost.
