Brussels Airlines in 2019
OK, let's take the risk and hope this topic will still be valid by December 31, 2019.
So, 2 additional flights per week on the Africa network next summer.
Given the fact that the fleet is not growing, which flights will be discontinued? Will Washington be re-started?

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019
Not exactly a job growth of 5%, you have to subtract leavers and retirees!Inquirer wrote: ↑04 Jan 2019, 00:07 Brussels Airlines is to hire 200 additional employees in 2019:
The job growth (5%) at Brussels Airlines is thus fully is in line with that at Lufthansa itself.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019
How about costs ? If you make a comparision of total employees devided by number of acft in fleet then this number is very high at SN. Maybe it is not a very good comparision, but i wonder if profit can be made then.
Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019
It all depends how much work has been outsourced.
Also long haul requires a higher number of employees/airframe than short haul, so difficult to compare.
Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019
exactly, and also with the longer 'European' flights to Egypt and the canary islands they require more rest time according to the EASA legislation both for pilots and cabin crew as they are limited.

Is there less outsourcing being done now?
I noticed their seat back magazine only mentions one single Sukoi now, but there is also an all white CRJ flying, so not sure how the balance looks in total, compared to last year.
It looks like the whole Lufthansa Group has decided to add some 5% to their staffing numbers to cope with growth as similar reports come out from all group airlines in their national press, and B.air is no exception it seems. Booming business.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019
SN only puts planes on the fleet page painted in their own colors, that's why the BMI planes weren't there either nor are the CRJ's as it's a temporary solution. Also BOM is still being operated this month the Asian map disappeared already from the magazine and last but not least the whole new front page layout changed after 4 years when they updated the magazine and one for both short and long haul flights.Inquirer wrote: ↑04 Jan 2019, 12:56 Is there less outsourcing being done now?

For 2018 Brussels Airlines announced 750 new jobs, but hired only 350 employees for the full year.
Such forecasts are highly unpredictable.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019
The forecast of 750 included new DUS based staff, 350 was the number for Brussels.
2018 was also the first year that SN exceeded 4000 employees.
Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019
Thanks for the clarification.
Now that Eurowings decided to operate long-haul flights out of Munich and mulls also long-haul operations out of Frankfurt, will those flights be operated by SN, with SN staff based in those bases?

Indeed, rumours have it that more and more longhauls will be moved to germany, and therefore also more and more SN staff will be based there, yet another obstacle for our belgians that live a comfortable life in the homeland with the family...and that is still the best solution ! When they decide not to operate with SN staff it will be worse...
Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019
The long haul in Germany are extra jobs, not a transfer of production from Belgium to Germany!Luke777 wrote: ↑05 Jan 2019, 09:02 Indeed, rumours have it that more and more longhauls will be moved to germany, and therefore also more and more SN staff will be based there, yet another obstacle for our belgians that live a comfortable life in the homeland with the family...and that is still the best solution ! “EW operated by SN” is a vehicle to circumnavigate CLAs in Germany and to introduce rock bottom T&Cs, but the operation has no influence whatsoever on employment in Belgium.

I could have written a book, if I would have believed all the rumours I already heard in my 22 years in aviation.

Hi,
More longhauls moved away from BRU, India is gone, USA? , AFI ?
Well if they move flights to Germany it is just opening space for competition
Welcome Air Senegal, Ethiopian B773, Air Kenya, Westjet, Norwegian and finally daily B738 rotation by KLM !
Maybe not that bad

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019
BOM has NOT been moved to Germany, it was not profitable from BRU.
The spare capacity has been deployed elsewhere in the network out of BRU.
Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019
It's a shame that SN isn't adding any new destinations out of BRU (only Kiev that started this winter season).
No other short or long haul destinations...

Well I don't think that they will move many flight to FRA because in that case well ... Competition Will take over..
