Virgin Atlantic says all 15 of its B787s are affected by faults with RR Trent 1000 engines, forcing the carrier to call on partner Delta Air Lines and lease four ex-Air Berlin A330-200s for up to four years, or indefinitely.
Virgin, who may seek compensation from Rolls-Royce, also brought an A340-600 back into service.

Re: Boeing 787 news
The FAA has limited the ETOPS flights of a number of 787 aircraft. In particular, it restricts the planes from operating more than 140 minutes from a diversionary airport, down from 330 minutes currently.
It concerns aircraft equipped with the Trent 1000 “package C” engines. It was found that durability issues afflicting blades were worse than first thought. About a quarter of in-service 787s and 350 turbines will be affected.
The European Aviation Safety Agency last week already ordered additional maintenance checks, while Japan ordered All Nippon Airways to fly its Dreamliner jets powered by the affected Rolls-Royce engines on a path close to airports protectively in case an emergency landing is required.

Rolls-Royce is adding people and maintenance space to triple the capacity, reducing turnaround times, developing innovative inspection techniques, accelerating new part introduction for customers affected by the issues with Trent 1000 Package C engines that have left some of B787s grounded.
Rolls-Royce aims to have first parts available for engine overhaul in late 2018, rather than 2019 as originally planned.

Re: Boeing 787 news
ANA will cancel an additional 176 domestic flights until 22 July to perform mandatory inspections on Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines on its Boeing 787 aircraft. So in total 289 flights will be cancelled. These 289 cancellations make up about 2 percent of ANA’s scheduled domestic flights during that period. ANA is investigating if additional cancellations would be needed after this period.
