Re: News from Eurowings 2016-2017
Those 3 planes that will operate for Eurowings could have been used to expand SN's North Atlantic routes.
Tonight I will have a dream that I open the newspaper and read that SN ordered 20 787s, 50 737s and 15 Regionals in order to be able to start expanding more seriously and offer a great network and connections through BRU! Sadly it looks like they will probably never get a single new plane... LH will dump their old A330s, A340 and A320s into SN

Why would an airline within a group not be able to go bankrupt? If such an airline makes that much losses that it affects the whole group, it would be quite logical to let it go bankrupt to save the airline group.

Re: News from Eurowings 2016-2017
In my opinion, that would be more like a nightmare, it would mean that the whole fleet standardisation that is on-going (narrow body = A320, wide body = A330) is just wasted resources. I assume you are a Boeing fanboy, so I'll just let you have this dream...JustPlanes wrote: ↑09 Nov 2017, 08:26 Tonight I will have a dream that I open the newspaper and read that SN ordered 20 787s, 50 737s and 15 Regionals
The (SN) A330 for DUS is only a temporary stop-gap measure, an LH Group effort to fill the void left by AB. The A330 will go to BRU at the end of WI18. What is wrong with that? If the LH Group does not take that market, a competitor will. I fully understand this move.
I still don't understand why so many people have such a negative attitude towards Lufthansa and Brussels Airlines on this forum. Next year, Brussels Airlines will carry more than 2 times the amount of passengers than 5 years ago. I think that is an achievement to be applauded, not the be brought down, especially when you consider Brussels Airlines got involved in a LCC battle at BRU. They came out stronger, while Vueling, Easyjet and Ryanair retreated.
Maybe reality still has to kick in for some people, but it is very very unlikely that we will ever see a true (Belgian owned) national carrier again in BRU/Belgium. The current largest airlines at BRU are both German owned, at CRL it is Irish, and the two new "start-ups" are both financed with Chinese money.

Air Berlin pilots came to an understanding with Lufthansa regarding pilot recruitment by Eurowings. But I don't know the details of the deal.

I agree with what you say in that last paragraph. SN has always been my preferred airline (that "at home" feeling, specially on return flights!), even though I don't consider it the best one.DeltaWiskey wrote: ↑10 Nov 2017, 19:14 I still don't understand why so many people have such a negative attitude towards Lufthansa and Brussels Airlines on this forum. My negative attitude, or rather my distrust, towards LH started the day SN was put in the "point-to-point" category, heralding the fact that it would only be allowed a limited "network" expansion. Plus the fact that, despite nice declarations, CS is treating SN as the black (no racism intended here!) sheep of the LH flock. I wonder how Gustin can explain that to his people and keep them motivated.

Rijeka Airport is negotiating for an undisclosed European airline — reportedly Eurowings — to open a base in the city in 2019, preceded by a US$3.0 million investment in the airport’s infrastructure in 2018.

Eurowings will thus indeed start new service from Dusseldorf to Ft Myers on 03 May and to Miami on 04 May 2018, with A330-300 operated by Brussels Airlines.
Furthermore, Eurowings will add new service from Berlin Tegel to Fuerteventura, Funchal, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Munich and Tenerife South starting in January and February 2018. Carrier will also cancel planned services to Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Karlsruhe, Krakow, Lanzarote, Malaga, Milan Malpensa, Santa Cruz de la Palma and Stockholm Arlanda.

If you look for flights Düsseldorf-New York (JFK) - starting at the end of April - they are also operated by Brussels Airlines.
Re: News from Eurowings 2016-2017
Indeed. With one of the two A340-300 aircraft transferred from Lufthansa.

Re: News from Eurowings 2016-2017
We will probably have to satisfy ourselves that LH does not transfer all long-haul flights from SN to DUS. If for flights to the US other carriers would fill the void left, for Africa it would be a disaster for many .Ansett wrote: ↑25 Nov 2017, 18:21 Nothing to be proud of : undercutting LH and AB collective agreements and nothing to be happy about : LH's A340 could have gone to brussels Airlines in BRU to expand brussels airlines' s network.
It's clear that SN is LH/CS's lowest priority. In fact, it is not even a priority. SN is just a tool to help CS achieve his own goals (EW)

Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter (LGW), a Q400 operator that Lufthansa acquired from Air Berlin, carried out a first A320 flight for Eurowings.

I read an article on the website here that Eurowings will be the 1st low cost to offer a business class... Doesn't Norwegian already offer that?

Nope, they just offer what they call 'premium',JustPlanes wrote: ↑13 Dec 2017, 07:36 I read an article on the website here that Eurowings will be the 1st low cost to offer a business class... Doesn't Norwegian already offer that?
an 'economy plus' product giving you more legroom and better/more onboard services.
https://www.norwegian.com/nl/travel-inf ... ium-cabin/
The newly launched EW BIZclass offered onboard its new long haul routes from DUS is a true C class product, including a 2m long full flat seat/bed as you'll find it also at SN...
https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/lufth ... ess-class/
No surprise really, since it will be rolled out on the routes operated by SN from DUS, first.
BTW, I gave away this radical product upgrade for EW almost 6 weeks ago already:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=60843&p=357126#p357126
As I told Sean back then: EW is quickly being morphed into the hybrid airline SN successfully turned itself into: you can expect full product alignment by them soon, although it's apparently too hard for Germans to say they are being shown how to position their pet project successfully on the market, by Belgians...
