Swissport wildcat strike at Brussels Airport - 22/08/2017
Seems there is a Swissport strike going on at BRU at this moment... Unbelievable that these problems with the baggage handlers continue, year after year after year, without real solutions. Scandalous!

Not really a surprise to me. The costs that are easy to cut into to make flights cheaper are all situated at the airport. It's no coincidence there are so many strikes at airports and airport related services. As stated by the Swissport rep: "The elastic band gave way as it was stretched beyond it's limit."

A new meeting has been scheduled between management and unions, the strike will last till 15:00 at least.
Re: Swissport wildcat strike at Brussels Airport - 22/08/2017
Swissport management announced that employees are angry that a 190€ premium has not been paid (not in the 2017 agreement) and says that unions now demand a double premium.

It means that there are rules regarding strikes, and one of them is giving advance notice so contingency plans can be made

It depends if the employer also respects there commitments...nobody goes on wild strike if there is another solution.sean1982 wrote: ↑22 Aug 2017, 17:34It means that there are rules regarding strikes, and one of them is giving advance notice so contingency plans can be made

I did not know that Swissport still had so many customers.b.lufthansa wrote: ↑22 Aug 2017, 18:07 Michael O'Leary is op dit moment een flesje champagne aan het kraken!

It is from the 25 millionth passenger that we can finally have 3 handling companies in BRU?
After FR who will be the next one ? SN ?
Re: Swissport wildcat strike at Brussels Airport - 22/08/2017
Not true. If the employer ignores a commitment you can simply go to a judge and demand the commitment is met. It seems more like the SwissPort employees just liked to take a day off.

This takes time it is another solution but I'm not in the company so I don't have details but I repeat nobody goes on wild strike if not necessary.

But SN is quite satisfied with the situation since they remain customers! If it takes time you wait, there is no Excuse for illegal procedures. In the uk or ireland, if you strike illegaly, you get fired for breach of contract ... end of storylumumba wrote: ↑22 Aug 2017, 18:50This takes time it is another solution but I'm not in the company so I don't have details but I repeat nobody goes on wild strike if not necessary.
