Re: Will RwandAir fly to Brussels from 2017?

Post by sn26567 »

I asked Brussels Airlines about the future of their relations with RwandAir as a newcomer on the BRU-KGL route. Geert Sciot replied that:
  • Brussels Airlines and RwandAir will continue their codeshare which is in place on the SN flights and has not been denounced by either party.
  • Brussels Airlines might examine the possibility to codeshare on the RwandAir flights, but nothing has been decided yet.
  • The Brussels Airlines schedules will remain unchanged (6 weekly flights), despite the increase of the offer due to the arrival of RwandAir.
Furthermore, in addition to the point-to-point traffic,Brussels Airlines links Kigali to the whole European market (UK, France, Germany, etc.) and even North America. Therefore SN sees no need to reduce its own traffic to KGL.

Interesting!
Any info on what the bilateral agreement allows to each airline?

Will the Rwandair flight be an A332 or A333? According to the announcement A332, but the Kigali-London flight is an A333, so that means a downgrade and a triangle flight? Or miss I something? :)

WB700 is the flight number currently used for the KGL-LGW flights. From 13 July, WB700 will be used for the whole triangular trip KGL-BRU-LGW-KGL.

Until now, RwandAir used both the A332 and the A333 for the WB700 route frtom KGL to LGW. There is no reason why this would change on the new triangular routing: I guess that the number of passengers will dictate the choice of the aircraft.

In deed, its depends load, but A330s are also deployed to Dubai and Lagos (almost daily). The B737 serves both cities, mainly, when one A330 is flying to London

At Dubai, the aircraft spends a whole day on the tarmac. On Accra / Lagos service, the aircraft makes its trip, during the daylight. Kigali London flight leaces Kigali at 12h30.

If loads are high to Dubai or Lagos, the A330-300 will be used and the A330-200 will fly London.

Last week, they sent A330-300. I konw that last friday, they were btw 150-160 pax (55-60% load factor), but there were lots of cargo, despite UK holidays have not yet started. They start this week, i think. Today, the A330-200 is deployed to London.

RwandAir has closed reservations on most BRU-LGW-KGL flights, from this week to early August. I guess flights are almost full, and some Travel Agencies, will sell remaining seats.

Of course it's too early to konw if the route will work well

Due to the pending issues with the UK border force the RwandAir flight will continue from BRU to LGW with no passengers embarking in BRU for KGL on that stretch.

So it's not possible to travel from Brussels to Kigali or is there flights going the other way ...
But anyway this is not sustainable!

Are other carriers allowed to bring passengers to a final destination via e.g. London ?

Example: CDG - LHR - JFK (passengers travel to JFK via a stop in London ? )

I remember that Sabena was flying BRU-LGW-ATL by B743 in codeshare with British Caledonian. With traffic rights on ALL segments.

That looks better. Travel Magazine this morning wrote that no passengers would be allowed from BRU to KGL!

No departing passengers in Brussels on RwandAir flight
It will not be allowed for passengers in Brussels to board the RwandAir flight to Kigali.

If this is true, this UK policy is worse than Trump's ban on Muslims! The list is almost exclusively sub Saharan Africa!
Didn't people at Rwandair know this before they decided to launch the flight to BRU?

I think a stop at BRU on both ways instead of a triangular flight would solve the problem. How silly of RwandAir to have accepted that set-up!
