OK - but apart from the website and that nice Photoshop photo, it all looks very mysterious.

I agree with that. Virtual airline, but without any form of transparency.

Hm, isn't that a bit easy? Even if professional pilots are famous for having their rumour networks , it would be nice to see this kind of criticism built on references. I for one am glad to see a new initiative and wish them every success.

I can;t go into details, but is was based on the very recent date of creation of the airline (April 2017), the type of HQ (as Passenger already indicated) and the way their website was registered.

This being said: I wish them all the luck as well!!! Maybe they just should introduce themselves better!

Apart from the announcements "wellcome " from their airports and Sion ski, what are the facts we know about this airline?

- a domain name, registered anonymously in Denver (USA), for one year only;

- a web page "about us" that doesn't tell anything "about them" at all:
https://www.powdair.ski/customer-servic ... wdair.html

- an airline without a page fleet info;

- a Wix website;

- a tickets sales module from Worldticket.net (most probably linked to a flight database);

- an official address in a multiburo block in Ireland for an airline that will be based in Switzerland;

- another address is shown when one registers to their newsletter: Powdair Airline, Chalet Therese, Route de Thonon, Ferney-voltaire 01210, France;

- a third address "we're based in Sion" in their FAQ's;

- a company registration with directors and investors that want to remain unknown / anonymous. One has to dig into the Irish company register to find two names from directors. And Google then isn't able to link them to aviation;

- a photo with an aircraft with a non existing EI-SKI reg;

- an airline that doesn’t provide a telephone number from a call center;
https://www.powdair.ski/customer-servic ... ct-us.html
https://www.facebook.com/pg/powdair/abo ... e_internal

- Zoë Ombler, their "Head of Marketing and Customer Experience” who is, perhaps, this person in LinkedIn. If so indeed, she's no staff but an external consultant:

Why would a Swiss company register in the UK?
Flying between Sion and the UK could become difficult for an Irish company after BREXIT, why not register in Switzerland?

Hello Everyone,

powdair is indeed a new airline and lots of information in regards to aircraft,people and first season operator info will be coming out over the next 8 weeks.

Some things need to remain confidential and there is no law that requires us or the accountable persons for the new AOC or anything else for that matter to be laid bare at the launch.

We will not be on the GDS system for TO's until late July at the earliest and everything we are doing behind the scenes is to position ourselves with the best possible strategy for routes and future growth directly ourselves.

Thank you for your understanding and please be advised we will not be monitoring this forum other than on an occasional basis as everyone is fairly busy whilst the team is growing to support our operation.

Many thanks
powdair

We respectfully ask that you are patient rather than assume

It's not a problem "legal or illegal" - it's a matter of confidence. One can accept that the investors want to remain anonymous. But when the CEO and the rest of the management team hide themselves like you do, that isn't assuring the travel trade.

Though I am no lawyer, I do have a legal problem with this. You are an airline, based in Dublin, so Irish and European legislation apply. Example: EU Regulation 2111/2005: "...the establishment of a Community list of air carriers subject to an operating ban within the Community and on informing air transport passengers of the identity of the operating air carrier...." This is the Regulation that introduced the famous EU blacklist. Article 11 from that legislation states that airlines must tell who the operating airline is. You don't do that. Article 11 states that you are only allowed to withhold that information when the name of the operating airline is not known to you. You mention the exact aircraft type and number of seats, so you must know the name of the operating airline. Hence, you must add the name of the operating airline before the reservation is confirmed.

Article 11. Information on the identity of the operating air carrier.
1. Upon reservation, the air carriage contractor shall inform the passenger of the identity of the operating air carrier or carriers, whatever the means used to make the reservation.
2. Where the identity of the operating air carrier or carriers is not yet known at the time of reservation, the air carriage contractor shall ensure that the passenger is informed of the name or names of the air carrier or carriers that is or are likely to act as operating air carrier or carriers on the flight or flights concerned. In such case, the air carriage contractor shall ensure that the passenger is informed of the identity of the operating air carrier or carriers as soon as such identity is established.
3. Wherever the operating air carrier or carriers is or are changed after reservation, the air carriage contractor shall, irrespective of the reason for the change, take immediately all appropriate steps to ensure that the passenger is informed of the change as soon as possible. In all cases, passengers shall be informed at check-in, or on boarding where no check-in is required for a connecting flight.
4. The air carrier or the tour operator, as the case may be, shall ensure that the relevant air carriage contractor is informed of the identity of the operating air carrier or carriers as soon as this is known, in particular in the event of a change of such identity.
5. If a ticket seller has not been informed of the identity of the operating air carrier, it shall not be responsible for not complying with the obligations provided for in this Article.
6. The obligation of the air carriage contractor to inform passengers of the identity of the operating air carrier or carriers shall be specified in the general terms of sale applicable to the contract of carriage.

Am I the only one who has a déja vu, or should I say "Beontop" feeling?
We had a member Beontop, now we have a member powdair, both make similar mistakes in English and don't use commas.
Too much of a coincidence to be a coincidence!

Ski-friendly launch airline Powdair has begun its downhill run to establish itself on the market, with tickets now on sale for scheduled flights to Switzerland starting this winter.

Operating from the new destination airport of Sion in the Swiss alps, the airline has a heavy emphasis on ski flights and connecting the Valais region. It will initially operate with a single Airbus A319 flying various routes into the skiing heartland from eight cities in the UK, Germany and Belgium. :o

The eight airports it will serve this winter are London Luton, London Southend, Southampton, Bristol, Manchester and Edinburgh in the UK, plus Antwerp in Belgium and Hamburg in Germany. Flights will start on 14 December, with Powdair saying it will significantly cut transfer times to some of Switzerland’s most popular ski resorts, including Zermatt, Verbier, Saas Fee, Crans Montana and Nendaz. The winter schedule will run until 16 April 2018.

A319 on the short runway (1510 m) in Antwerp? I always thought that an A319 would need a couple of 100 meters extra...

Indeed, I thought that this was the reason why SN didn't move it's A32* operations to Antwerp after the attacks in Brussels. :?:

Perhaps it can be done with reduced loads - as SN did to operate B737's there.

Probably, but skis and other equipment + winter clothes won't make it easy to reduce loads while maintaining enough revenues.
