Re: Airbus A380 news
Iran drops its A380 order. This was more or less expected: I always thought that this aircraft was too big for IranAir, and after their B777 purchase, it looks like the B777 will be able to satisfy their largest needs.

Carsten Spohr will take them for his Eurowings project
Re: Airbus A380 news
It won't take that long before the first second hands will hit the market, think the first ones are hitting the market next year or so.Charlie Roy wrote:I still wonder who will buy all the 2nd hand A380's in 20 years time
Re: Airbus A380 news
Some excellent Persian negotiation skills... Probably the A380 deal was just there to get better prices for the B777.sn26567 wrote:Iran drops its A380 order. Emirates defers deliveries of 12 Airbus A380s
Emirates Airline, which saw a steep drop in profit its latest financials, is deferring delivery of six Airbus A380s from 2017 to 2018 and postponing delivery of another six A380s from 2018 to 2019.
Airbus announced the delivery deferrals in a press release Dec. 27, saying that agreements had been reached between Emirates and Rolls-Royce and between Emirates and Airbus.
The Toulouse-based aircraft manufacturer stated in July that it would cut A380 production to 12 aircraft from 2018, more than halving the production rate of the double-deck very large aircraft from 2.5 per month to one.
Emirates is beginning to take delivery of the first of its Rolls Trent 900-powered A380s, but said earlier in December that it had encountered a last-minute “technical glitch” with the engine.
The initial 90 A380s ordered by Emirates – most of which have been delivered – are powered by Engine Alliance GP7000s, an engine produced under a GE Aviation/Pratt & Whitney joint venture. Rolls, however, secured the contract to power Emirates follow-on batch of 50 A380s.

Re: Airbus A380 news
So if I get this correct, actually they are delaying six aircraft for two years as the deliveries in 2018 remain unchanged.sn26567 wrote:Emirates defers deliveries of 12 Airbus A380s

Peace Airways (Sri Lanka) claims it will operate six A380s within three years, along with six B787s, should it be is selected as strategic partner of SriLankan Airlines.
Can you believe that? I can't.

It seems Airbus is performing right now a test flight from XFW with a future Emirate A380
Re: Airbus A380 news
It seems that the wake turbulence from A380's is much more severe as thaught:
Aviation Herald: "Accident: Emirates A388 over Arabic Sea on Jan 7th 2017, wake turbulence sends Canadair Challenger 604 business jet in uncontrolled descent"

Airbus sets the new standard for Cattle Class: 3-5-3.wrote:https://www.aviation24.be/manufacturers/ai ... customers/
Thanks to an innovative seating concept developed by Airbus and its seating partners, Airbus is able to maintain an 18inch seat-width while offering airlines an 11-abreast Economy Class on the main-deck in a ‘3-5-3’ configuration. This enables an increase in capacity of 23 seats – adding significantly to the A380’s revenue-generating potential.
Re: Airbus A380 news
Emirates says its Economy is 3-4-3 and 18.0 width. And Airbus now says 3-5-3 is possible, keeping the 18.0 width?

Re: Airbus A380 news
The A380 has indeed 18" seats and even with an extra seat the seats will remain 18" wide, Airbus announced this already back in 2015 and it would be available from 2017 which it is now. Nothing new really.
So I wouldn't call it the new standard for cattle class, the standards for cattle are still the 9 abreast 787 and the 10 abreast 777. But thanks to changes in the interior the 777X should be able to provide 18" width wile retaining a 10 abreast seating.

Re: Airbus A380 news
IMHO it's not more comfortable than a 3-4-3 777. But i didn't try either one. And I'm not going to try any time soon!
