Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2016
A number of unions (ANPAC, ANPAV and USB), representing various Alitalia pilots and flight attendants, have confirmed a strike of 24 hours for 22 September, despite cancellation of industrial action by national unions (CGIL, CISL, UIL and UGL) following an agreement with the company.
The strike will result in the inevitable cancellation of many Alitalia flights.

The leftist Belgian trade union ABVV/FGTB has cancelled it's national strike, planned for 7th October 2016.

That cancellation was decided by all unions, as I read the source, not by any single one - just as the call to "action" had been.
Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2016
The initial Belga press report, sent to me by De tijd at 16h40, was: "...ABVV staakt niet op 7 oktober. De socialistische vakbond ABVV schrapt de algemene staking die voor 7 oktober gepland stond..."jan_olieslagers wrote:That cancellation was decided by all unions, as I read the source, not by any single one - just as the call to "action" had been.
Aftere the ABVV/FGTB had sent out that press release "we won't strike", the other unions also announced the same thing. So most journalists edited their press reports about this no-strike, including the one I posted (I prefer links from deredactie.be because their stories are not subscribers only).

Ha, hm, no comment - no surprise either. After all, the hard work must be done by SOME hard worker ...
Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2016
Easyjet pilots have voted overwhelmingly for strike action, prompting an 11th hour offer from the airline to resolve the dispute.
The British Airline Pilots Association confirmed 96 per cent of union members voted for “some form of industrial action” with an 88 per cent turnout.
The action is over complaints that Easyjet’s pilot schedule is resulting in rising levels of fatigue.
(And, incidentally - because it is not affecting Belgian airports - Eurowings cabin crew in Dusseldorf are on strike !)

Off topic, as no Belgian airport is involved: ATC at Karpathos Greece (AOK/LGKP) is on strike. At least one TUI NL aircraft is grounded there.
Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2016
Tomorrow, the baggage handlers will probably go on strike at BRU. So AGAIN lots of misery and angry pax.
THANK YOU, (socialist) unions.
Striking when thousands of people lose their job every day... They should all be fired.

Yes! Eurowings flight attendants threaten to strike (as a reminder, Eurowings flies three times daily from BRU to Stuttgart under the Germanwings banner).

For tomorrow, Brussels airport recommends: "Targeted industrial actions on 7 October: Travel only with hand baggage respecting liquids & gels restrictions".
And Jetairfly: "Due to a strike we ask all travellers to present themselves at the airport extra early tomorrow, Friday October 7th."
Public transport & traffic to/from/at the airport may be impacted.

1. It is not the socialist union alone that went on strike, but all unions.
2. BA was maybe a little too fast to cancel flights. Apart from their two flights, I see only another flight cancelled: SK to Oslo.

Emirates had asked two slot times at AMS Amsterdam, for EK-183/EK-184 (DXB-BRU-DXB): 13h30-18h00. But they cancelled them, and operated the flights as scheduled to BRU when it was clear the BRU was ops normal.

Also in the morning there were various cargo cancellations.
Not sure though if those cancellations are related to the strikes.

In the Netherlands, Thomas Cook/Neckermann have added a flight. Passengers who are booked on a flight on Sunday to Kos or Rhodos may fly today, with an extra Transavia flight out of AMS. Extra hotel night is for Thomas Cook.sn26567 wrote:An ATC strike will affect flights to/from Greek airports. Oct 08 2101—Oct 10 2059 & Oct 11 2101—Oct 13 2059 UTC.
