Ison comet observation flight ...

Post by cathay belgium »

Hi,

Don't know if anyone posted this already...
But we have a very bright comet , a real one not the british oldie nor our beloved member ;) , comin' over the next weeks, ISON...
Volksterrenwacht Urania, a belgian star gazing club, organizes a 'comet flight' in the next days to watch this event from close.
Flight will be operated by a Brussels Airlines Airbus and will cost 199 euro... two hours flight included a brief and clear information about what you see...
Exact date unknown due to weather restrictions...
If intrested you can email them for the waiting,standbye.. - list...

Update : date set on 1 december, flight operated by thomas cook a319 from 6am to 8am..
Fridaymoring will we know if the comet survived his solar passage...
But if time for organising a flight is so short, the flight will take off anyway!
Or for a spectacular view on the comet or for a belgian sky, clouds gazing...

And the cost is now down to 125 euro. Registration ASAP: info@urania.be

I hope they make good seating arrangements, so that everybody can see the ISON comet !

On stargazing flights the usual practice is to change seats with those who do not have a window seat, so everyone gets a view.

The last Comet I saw was Hale-Bopp a few years ago.

Thanks for the info!

Went to the webpage of Urania, and did not really understand the last sentence: "In de vluchtprijs zit ook een info-avond over de komeet en de vlucht op Volkssterrenwacht Urania in Hove inbegrepen. Deze vindt plaats op vrijdagavond 29 november."

What is this "Vlucht op Volksterrenwacht Urania in Hove"? Is it the actual 2hours flight to observe the comet?

Thanks CX-B!

Not sure if I'll join, still have to see how to organize the next week-end. 6AM is quite early on a Sunday (especially after a party scheduled the evening before)... Are there other Luchtzakkers planning to join?

Hello

The Aviation Factory flight!

For the moment the idea is that the aircraft Will make a turn every 5-10 minutes, so both sides could see the comet. Alt of the flight Will be +/- 30 000ft.

Greetings,
PS: Tangolima might join.
All my posted timings are local !

Will be at work and I sweared my colleagues I would not ask for another switch this year :o
Still, that's very tempting but hard to organize on a so short notice...

Maybe I will, joined some 'Urania-flights' earlier (lunar eclipse) and these were well organised

:geek: For the astronomy lovers, despite several reports in the media (eg. http://www.knack.be/nieuws/wetenschap/k ... 17466.html), ISON is not dead yet.

It'll be a flight anyway, and that's what's important for aviation buffs!

And I'm sure that the people of Urania will have lots of things to show: a very narrow ash-coloured moon crescent, the planets Mercury and Saturn, the Milky Way between the Swan constellation and Orion, the W of Cassiopeia, and perhaps also shooting stars and a fireball.

It will be flying in a very different way!
