Gliding at Ursel?

Hi all,

Today I was at a bbq with a friend, very close to the airfield of Ursel. I know the airfield can be used by the 2 clubs, but during the whole afternoon (from around 13hrs local to around 18hrs local) I saw constantly a glider going to around 300m (circuit hight).
I thought gliding was not allowed at ursel, or am I wrong?

There is Axel Glider Airfield about 17km from Ursel, so maybe?

No, because there they use a winch to launch the gliders, I saw a taildragger towing the glider, which disconnected around circuit hight.

There was a initiating-day at EBUL.

OO-YEP and OO-RTP from glidingclub Phoenix at Overboelare were present

Ah ok, so it was not that gliding is allowed now. Too bad

Well, even so it seems the ban on gliding is less strict than it used to be. And that is good thing, Belgium has far too few gliding fields west of Brussels. Only Overboelare and Maubray, I think? So that many glider pilots from the Kortrijk area go to Northern France, even as far as Valenciennes? Compare that to the provinces of Antwerp and Limburg!

May we hope to see full glider operations allowed at Ursel, one day?

There used to be a club in Beernem, a few kilometers from Ursen. I believe they stopped there around 2004-2005. I remember when they were pulled up with a winch iso a towing-plane
