1st 787 Dreamliner @ Brussels: When? Which airline?

Postby sn26567 » 31 Jul 2012, 16:11

In the Spotting topic for Belgium, it is mentioned that a second Lufthansa A380 will come to Brussels on 14 September, with a good reason: its name will be "Brüssel".

That makes me wonder when Brussels Airport will welcome its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

One airline coming regularly to Brussels will soon get its first 787: today Boeing is rolling out the first Dreamliner for United (N20904 - ZA288). Shall we have the opportunity to see it at Brussels?

ANA, which has already many 787s in its fleet, might also come to Brussels in the coming months (2013?). Another possibility?

And Jetairfly has a 787 on order. If other airlines don't hurry up, they might well be the first to send a 787 to Brussels.

Any other candidates? The airport is anxious to welcome the first 787 with due respect.

Hainan and Qatar (replacing the A332's with the 787) are also very good candidates as they'll receive their first 787's in the comming weeks (when talking about QR) and months (talking about Hainan).

If nothing changes like you say, JAF will indeed be the first airline to operate the 787 to Brussels. However that one is planned at this moment for Q4 of 2013.

ANA like you say might come, as rumours always rise again. What is the actual capacity difference between an A332, B767, B777 and a B787?

To keep it easy a typicall 3-class configuration is used most of the times to compare:

1- Boeing 767-200(ER): 181 seats
2- Boeing 767-300(ER): 218 seats
3- Airbus A340-200: 240 seats
4- Boeing 787-8: 242 seats
5- Boeing 767-400ER: 245 seats
6- Airbus A330-200: 253 seats
7- Airbus A350-800: 270 seats
8- Boeing 787-9: 280 seats
9- Airbus A330-300: 295 seats
9- Airbus A340-300: 295 seats
11- Boeing 777-200(ER/LR): 301 seats
12- Airbus A340-500: 313 seats
13- Airbus A350-900: 314 seats
14- Airbus A350-1000: 350 seats
15- Boeing 777-300(ER): 365 seats
16- Airbus A340-600: 380 seats
17- Boeing 747-8i: 467 seats
18- Airbus A380-800: 525 seats

The Boeing 787-10 would be situated between the 787-9 and 772 (so the A333/A343 spot). The 777-8X (the -200ER/LR replacement) will be slightly bigger than the current -200 versions, same with the 777-9X (replacement for the -300ER).

Maybe a small chance for Royal Air Maroc because they use there 767 also sometimes to Brussels.

Thanks for that, so based upon flights that our carried out using a 763ER/764ER the change is big that a 787 is used instead if I may conclude that out of these figures? :)

Chances are we'll see a lot of 787's at BRU in the future. :P
The new JAF building will consist of a so called 'Goldcare competence center' meaning they will do the maintenance of all 14 B787's of the TUI Group and they can do the maintenance of B787 of other airlines according to Bru Airport Blog (Dutch): http://www.brusselsairport.be/nl/blog_b ... 012/25630/

Hi all,

Can't register for the visit, but I am at the airport since leaving for Edinburgh around 10am. Hope I can spot it.
I guess it is not known yet which gate it will use, or is it a visit without passengers? I think BMI aircraft is parking at the south side of the B-pier. Might have a chance to see the plane from the SN business lounge :D

Forgot to mention,
Next year I will probably go to Addis Ababa, Autumn 2013.
Might there be a chance to have the B787 in Brussels by then?
I assume that all B767 and B757 of ET will be replaced by B787, or is that wishful thinking?
Cheers,
Danny
