Engine problem few hundred metres from Ursel Airport (EBUL), halfway between Bruges and Ghent.

Pilot was the sole occupant and he escaped without injuries.

Good to see that the pilot is ok..
still a bit puzzled about the amount of damage to the aircraft... having flown the MS880 myself and being familiar with the area around EBUL, there are plenty of fields (big enough without trees) to make precautionary landing, especially with a Morane..
Investigation will bring more wisdom...

Yes, I wondered that, too. But indeed speculation is no good.
Good to see none were injured, well done by the pilot (and a bit of luck, too, probably)
As for the plane: given its age, it seems unlikely to be repaired, even if the damage isn't extensive.

As the pilot says ,he was flying at 500 feet ,and at that altitude you have only about 20 seconds to land in a decent field . Perhaps he could not avoid the tree.I have flown the MS880 myself too ,however never been at EBUL .
