UPS makes unsolicited bid on TNT Express

Re: UPS makes unsolicited bid on TNT Express
They can't really work without EU flights with crews ... but they could do it from elsewhere indeed.
It's a good challenge for LGG mgmt.
Those people were totally unable to do anything positive in the last 3 years.
As mentioned before, they've been sleeping for a while : no new clients and no lobbying for a TNT sell-out planned already for years.
Politics and efficiency don't go together.

Why? You think UPS is not flying intra EU out of CGN?4-Stroke wrote:For some reason no one mentioned what this will mean for Belgian Aviation. Take over of TNT Airways by UPS means TNT A is no more EU/Belgium owned and thus no longer allowed to fly intra EU or long haul.

This is what he meant probably :

very interesting point indeed

The fact that they cut half of their long haul is already a reality for a long time. They use only 2 744 and we don't see those 777 that often.
Now the second part is more scary. If they really want to play with smaller hubs in Europe, Liège will lose a lot.
Looks like it's game over already.
But yeah ... the crisis had almost no effect in Belgium so far ... it had to begin somewhere ...

More info from here:Atlantis wrote: They will stop or strong reduce their intercontinental network.
This means that they will reduce fleet. The B747 will go out of the fleet.

Re: UPS makes unsolicited bid on TNT Express
TNT have a history of making grand plans for the air network that then fizzle out.
There where the 72 BAe 146, which in the end became just over a dozen. Then there was 14 A300 and now the long-haul network, which was to be where the future of TNTA was.
Regardless of what happens with the UPS bid, I would start updating the resume if I was employed by TNTA.

TNT Express has published the invitation and agenda to the 2012 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders scheduled for 11 April. http://www.tnt.com/corporate/en/site/ho ... eting.html
There should be an interesting debate about the future of the company!

2 nice articles in french
http://www.lecho.be/actualite/entrepris ... 1-3019.art
http://www.lameuse.be/351272/article/re ... peen-mercr
Everybody seem to agree that the deal is very close to be done
The union is officially in panic mode... finally
But from the way they talk, it seem they concider the game lost
50% of the trafic of LGG could go away, and about 2000 jobs.

Re: UPS makes unsolicited bid on TNT Express
and yet they say Liège will not suffer too much:
http://www.rtbf.be/info/regions/detail_ ... id=7732945
"Liège will have a role in the european network, although it may be a different role than now"
"UPS recognizes the significant value of TNT Express' operations, assets and people in Liege and will seek to continue the future utilization of these operations, assets and people within the combined group."

Re: UPS makes unsolicited bid on TNT Express
It is maybe high time for local unions start worrying. They should be regretting successive strikes seen over the last years. (N° 1 in Europe). And we don't forget ATC boys, always ready to put the mess when other towers are at work.
Now on the other hand we can expect that LGG should stay on the UPS' map, at least for some years since capacity is needed to fulfil TNT's contracts.
Cologne extension should not be on stream before 2014. (if they go ahead with the plan ?)

Re: UPS makes unsolicited bid on TNT Express
Let's be honnest: that's nothing but managerial smalltalk really.
What is interesting is whether UPS will offer written guarantees not to move the TNT operations to UPS' hub in CGN anytime soon. Saying they want to make use of the assets, the network and people of TNT in future too, is something entirely different than saying they will not move the hub 70 miles and take everybody willing to move along with them, is it?
Given the nature of the parcel activities of both TNT/UPS, it seems highly unlikely 2 very similar hubs so nearby each other will continue to exist alongside eachother for very long; combining the 2 just offers too much savings and synergies not to do it, so it may just be a matter of time before it happens, IMHO.
Besides, will the TNT brand continue to exist in the long run? I suppose not.
Then how would they decide which parcel from OSL to BUD goes through LGG and which through CGN for instance?
This being said, one can always hope for UPS to move to LGG too of course...

Re: UPS makes unsolicited bid on TNT Express
Much also depends how much "support" 3V did get from the government to have LGG as their base. If they received incentives to use LGG I except them to have it in written how long 3V needed to stay in LGG. AFAIK the Wallonian government did invest quite some money (at least quite some money for the government, probably pocketchange for 5X) in LGG to support 3V...
So we'll see where this is heading but I expect LGG to be dismantled in let's say about 5 years from now.
