Re: Dutch Aviodrome Museum in very serious financial difficu

Post by Passenger »

On Monday, the aviation theme park has asked the trade court for "surseance van betaling" = protection against creditors (In Belgium: concordaat/concordat, replaced by the new Wet continuïteit ondernemingen / Loi continuité entreprises).

Reasons:
1. Number of visitors dropped to 200.000 per year.
2. Drop in number of special events, parties and business functions.
3. The three biggest sponsors = KLM, Amsterdam Airport and Postcodeloterij don't want to fund them more then they do already.

DDA - Dutch Dakota Association - is not involved.

And on Thursday 24th November, they've filed for bankruptcy.

Dutch press suggest that Libema (Leisure Group) will take over Aviodrome as an aviation theme park (after the bad debts have been washed away by the trade court). Libema surely has the experience for this setup (http://www.libema.nl)

Very good news : Libema Vakantieparken / Holiday Resorts has taken over Aviodrome Lelystad; they will fully re-open as aviation museum on 28th April 2012. Some Dutch newspapers report that Libema has paid 5,4 mio Euro to the liquidator for everything except the two most important aircraft from the museum.

PH-AJU (DC-2 "Uiver") and N749NL (Lockheed Constellation "Connie") have been sold by the liquidator to AMS / KLM / City of Lelystad for 750.000 Euro's. But the 3 new owners have agreed with Libema to keep the two aircraft at Lelystad and not to move or resell them.

Apart from the take over offer, Libema Holiday Resorts (best known from their safari parks "Beekse Bergen") will also invest in Aviadrome: "...Tevens komen in het Aviodrome zeven attractiezones.

Ah but will it still accept the Museumkaart or would I need to start paying for admission (or not going at all)?

Apart from a large cleaning operation (yes, all aircraft and buildings are being cleaned) also some building activities are now underway at the Aviodrome grounds.
