Re: Brussels Airport: monthly traffic figures 2011
JULY
PAX
It was predicted and at the final day of July it was confirmed, July was a very, very good month for Brussels Airport and it's operators.
Brussels Airport received in July 2.033.101 pax or an increase with +9,3% when we compare this with the same month of last year.
This means that July 2011 comes just after July 2000 (2.242.409 pax) and July 2001 (2.218.065 pax).
All segments were growing very well. Intra-EU thanks to upgrades of SN and the growing LC-segment. Also Extra-EU is growing due to the new service of Qatar and the upgrades of excisting carriers.
Intra-EU: 1.219.000 pax: +9,8%
Extra-EU: 814.000 pax: +8,7%
In July, Air Arabia increase their presence at the airport to fly 6 times to BRU instead of 3 times
Etihad increased also their number of flights from 6 tot 8 flights a week.
CARGO
Brucargo and Brussels Airport handled 38.700 ton of cargo or a decrease with -5,9% when we compare this with the same month of last year.
It is not only a BRU problem but a worldwide problem. Singapore Airlines cargo is writing red cargo figures, Cathay Pacific is doing also a very bad service this year. Some Asian cargo airports have their worst period in decades
MOVEMENTS
In July there were 21.000 movements at the airport or an increase with +1% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

Re: Brussels Airport: monthly traffic figures 2011
It's not a "worldwide" problem. Only traffic from Asia is down heavily. If you look at for example ZRH, FRA and AMS, you'll see that they don't see a decline (mostly due to Africa and North America). Seems to me that it is a BRU problem (too much reliance on Asia for Cargo).Atlantis wrote:It is not only a BRU problem but a worldwide problem. Re: Brussels Airport: monthly traffic figures 2011
It's indeed Asia and BRU is heavily depending on cargo out of/to Asia... Bad year for cargo...LJ wrote:

Re: Brussels Airport: monthly traffic figures 2011
Still it is. TNT Airways, LGG, has also difficulties with their flights to Asia. Thanks to their flights to the Middle-East they could show resonable figures.LJ wrote:It's not a "worldwide" problem. All airports were Asian carriers flies to are affected with cancelled cargo flights or minimum loads. BRU focus is indeed on Asia and that's why they hit harder but the official reports of IATA are very concerned about the worldwide cargo traffic. This is so low.

Not published yet, which is quite normal.
Official statistical AEA figures are always lagging behind by more than 1 month....

Re: Brussels Airport: monthly traffic figures 2011
Yes but SN started to announce their figures themself already since this year. Mostly in the first weeks of the month (number regarding to the previous month, so much faster than you can find the figures on the AEA website). This time it seems they didn't published anything yet.tolipanebas wrote:Not published yet, which is quite normal.

Re: Brussels Airport: monthly traffic figures 2011
Nov: 1,4 miljoen pax (+4,1%)
Brussels Airport is expecting record growth for 2011. YTD growth till November stands at +9.6%. Expecting another good growth result in the month of December, passenger growth for the full year 2011 should finish at approximately +9.5% growth and 18.7-18.8 million passengers.

Re: Brussels Airport: monthly traffic figures 2011
Isn't that even higher as 2008 (the most bussy year since the collapse of Sabena)?Boeing767copilot wrote:and 18.7-18.8 million passengers.
I find it quite suprising the amount of cargo was up 1.8% in November...worldwide the cargo traffic is down the latest months (mainly due to Asia)...
And despite the reduced capacity of SN this winter, BRU still says: "Once again, growth was largely driven by Brussels Airlines". Mainly in the transfer and long haul segment and possibly Intra-European business traffic which is also said to be doing well (together with low cost)?
Re: Brussels Airport: monthly traffic figures 2011
