arriving at Charleroi from Prestwick 4 hours too late ( other story) with Ryanair -what did you expect? - the torture went on by standing in line for > half hour at immigration because so many people were not OK with their Shengen visa.

OK, that is a good point: profit.
The only reason of existance of a company is to make profit.
And in that respect such a profit is fine, certainly compared with most other businesses that made losses in 2009.

Unfortunately, the NBB still does not give details on the 2009 figures. I just wonder how many subsidies are given prior to end up with this figure.
for 2008 for example, half of the 55 millions euro revenue were given as subsidies. The same occurs to LGG.
So are we really calling this profit ?

Then we have to change all communications of all companies in Belgium.

If half was given in 2008, I would say that for 2009 the figure would be not far away, let's say...half as well...happy now?Filou wrote:Unfortunately, the NBB still does not give details on the 2009 figures. I just wonder how many subsidies are given prior to end up with this figure.

You can call it profit, loss or whatever...I see that pax increased by 33% and looks like SAVE and the operators @ CRL enjoy the place.

Guys, can't you - instead of saying about being pathetic or whatsoever, just admit that , yes indeed- both CRL and LGG need about half of their revenue as subsidies to end up break-even of profitable ?
And that - without these enourmous subidies- that no private company would be able to remain open and alive ?

it's like saying the sky is blue
we know it, no need to discuss it.

Re: 2010 Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
This is a point: profit is profit, doesn't matter where it comes from.
The moment that a company is in the red, and it receives state subsidies, it is on collision course with the EU.
A bit strange here is now that Ryanair was forced to pay back subsidies from Charleroi airport. But if the airport - as a company - itself is making profit by some strange subsidies, we should see the same kind of EU intervention.
Anyway, good for me as taxpayer. If they make profit, they pay taxes and don't get any of my money to keep going, as with the Belgian Railways subsidaries - which are a kind of companies, making huge losses and absorbing subsidies higher than the GDP of some poor nations.

Re: 2010 Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
Can we call a company (partially) owned by a government a real company?
Europe has a problem with it, certainly if that same government decides about some issues concerning that company , such as taxes or lowered taxes.

In the meantime they provide jobs to numerous people and I prefer these people on partially subsidised jobs then on welfare.Filou wrote:Guys, can't you - instead of saying about being pathetic or whatsoever, just admit that , yes indeed- both CRL and LGG need about half of their revenue as subsidies to end up break-even of profitable ?

As I read this, the subsidies must be comprised in the 17.000.000 "others" so can never be more than that amount in 2009 - a nice progress over 2008, where it is stated to be "half of the revenues" which are 55.000.000
Steady evolution towards a normal situation?

From 11 June, Italian airline FlyOnAir will operate twice weekly flights (on Fridays and Sundays) from Charleroi to Pescara (its home base) and Catania in Italy.
This brings the total number of destinations in Italy from Charleroi to 15.

Re: 2010 Charleroi Airport (CRL) latest news
FlyOnair offers flight from charleroi to Pescara every year, in the high season (last year, the first flight was earlier).
It's mainly ethnic VFR custom.
The carrier is the Romanian BlueAir, like last year.

FlyOnAir re-opens routes to Pescara and Catania for summer 2010!
Brussels South Charleroi, the most accessible airport in Belgium, announced today that FlyOnAir will be active again this summer in the airport of Brussels South Charleroi. From 11 June onwards, FlyOnAir offers flights on Fridays and Sundays to Pescara and Catania. These two destinations in Italy are a nice addition to the 13 Italian destinations from the airport. With these new routes, BSCA confirms this summer once again her position as the gateway to Italy. FlyOnair has been active since 2004 in Charleroi. The flights are operated by BlueAir.
The re-opening of these routes is good news for fans of the Abruzzi, located in southern central Italy. The region is known for its 4 nature parks, authentic mountain villages, picturesque coastal villages and of course the magnificent beach promenade of Pescara. Tickets from €69 one way can be booked at http://www.flyonair.it!
FlyOnAir Commercial Manager Letizia Saracino said today:
“BSCA routes have a great many of potential lovers of these beautiful Italian regions. Last summer, these routes performed fantastically well. This is why we offer these routes again this year. Furthermore, a large number of Italians live in the Benelux and are happy to take advantage of our cheap flights in summer to visit friends and family!”

Another communication of the airport:
Brussels airlines was complaining that CRL received subsidies from the waloon gov, and since BRU don't have the same, Brussels airlines see an unfair competition.
Answer of Charleroi airport : you are welcome in CRL.
nothing else to add I guess
