In the spring (before the 24th of June 2009) b.air announced that it did not want to expand in Africa because of the crisis and decreasing pax figures. After the 24th of June 2009, indeed you are right, major decisions will be made by the new board on which, fortunately, now also LH representatives sit.
And how do you know Mayrhuber does not share my view ? Do you know him personally ? Did he say it to you ?
On 31st of July 2009, the EU Commission announced it had reached an agreement with LH to remove the final obstacles in order to approve the take-over of OS by LH. So, I don't think Mayrhuber is still really waiting for the EU clearance. He already knows he can take-over OS.
Unlike what you assume, I think Mayrhuber is clever enough to already have noticed that the future of b.air ALSO lies in not only a fifth but several additional A330s to fly to Africa. But you don't have to share my view (or Mayrhuber's ;) )

A more interesting question to ask LX (who has been claiming repeatedly he's merely a passenger with great interest in aviation) is where he got this piece of information from:

LX-LGX wrote:The full board has agreed that investments above 1.500.000 euro must be full board approved.

I'd like to see a link to a public source which reveiled this before...
Or is this coming straight from the shareholders pact? 8-)

But SN doen't need an external Airbus for that...
As Atlantis has already said here, LH has announced it will start to operate from FRA to LBV and SN will be codesharing on this route. Don't you think it is odd for an airline like LH to venture so deep into black French speeking Africa to operate to a single destination?
Ever considered the likeliness this route could rather quickly be switched to BRU, albeit still operated by LH metal? Especially given the fact several sources have indicated in the past LH would be willing to transfer some Central African flights from FRA to AFI and LH has -as noted by LX- 15 A330-300s in its fleet, some of which are not optimally used right now due to the economic crisis....
Just an idea of mine. ;)

How will the SN cockpit and cabin crew "feel" about the possible move of LH deploying their own metal (long haul / short haul / regional) at BRU?

Will it lead to (serious) disappointment/frustration among the crew if LH would be developing their operations at BRU by using LH people and equipment rather than by developing through SN?

Which is quit normal. If a home carrier suffer, the airport will also suffer. We can see this on every airport.

Withy the grounding of several aircraft, it means that the load factor increased by 2.7% compared to the previous year. It might be considered as an encouraging signal.

Hi all,

AEA released traffic figures for October:

Brussels Airlines sees an increase in pax since a long time, as well as an important increase in LF

Pax: 436.700, +1.7%
LF: 62.1 or +2.7

Good news in long time ...

Notice that a lot of other European airlines continue to lose pax, including AF, KL, AY, BD, ... The contrary is true for TK.

Danny

Please explain why a reduction in loadfactor (compared to september 09) is to be considered "good news". Don´t forget that October 08 was a very bad month for all airlines (if you look at loadfactors). If you take into account the fact that SN´s loadfactor is very low compared to its competitors I would think "not bad news" is more appropiate

The airline business is often a seasonal business. In seasonal businesses you compare result of a defined period with results from the same period on previous years in order to see how you are doing.
For SN (and for that matter most typical airlines), the summer sparks, the winter is dead.

For the rest you are right. Not bad news.

Looking forward to see the first results since joining Star but I don't believe that there will be a big difference(LF +5% or more).

Just look at the loadfactors posted in the very first post of this topic. You'll see a drop in loadfactors of about 5% from September to October, every single year. So a drop now between those months is pretty irrelevant, as one should never compare LF from month to month, always year to year.

The LF of SN is always terrible, I hate that. :P Probably caused by the extra capacity of SN since the end of october, the passengers are rising but not that fast... result lower load factor. I hope this will improve in the comming months.
But the cargo is a good sign, cargo is for the AFI flights maybe even more important than pax.
