According to flightglobal.com, the MD-11F is the only one in their fleet and it had been delivered a few days ago.

Yes indeed, they will replace the older DC-10 by these MD-11 airplanes. So that is disaster for Avient.

Hopefully Avient is strong and diversified enough to survive this crisis.

This incident reminds me of the crash of ZS-OOS in Lagos in November 2003, which -as I understand- was also the end of Hydro Air Cargo and their twice weekly BRU-LOS-JNB flights.

Aircraft was reportedly heading for LGG.

http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forum ... n/4621829/
Xinhua (official Chinese news agency) confirms it is Avient. Veered off the runway while taking off for FRU and LGG.

What does a "flying spanner" do exactly?

Take care of the airplane in stations were no (contracted or not) maintenance is available.
He services the a/c (engine oil, tire pressures, refueling, etc) + actions technical problems.
Were a flying spanner is on board, usually there is also a "fly away kit" consisting of aircraft spare parts
to fix aog situations.

There is a wikipedia page for those who are interested by the case
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avient_Aviation_Flight_324

Remember it's wikipedia, anybody can edit and add facts linked to sources. it'll then a lot easier to find information in the future, when all blog/forum/news pages will be gone.

There is an interesting article in french:
http://www.agoravox.fr/tribune-libre/ar ... odin-65802

Typical journalist work : not exactly neutral and not exactly correct but still a good research with a lot of nice links and lots of pictures of the crash at the end of the page

Dear Acid-drop.

Of course, I have jumped to the Agoravox...I didn't know this sheet (or shit) before.
Don't call this guy Morice "a journalist" .At first I shared your view. When I have started to read , that rang a bell to me. All the article is a patchwork of "informations" collected on the net. I can tell you that I have seen a lot of them here and there on the internet: the story about weapons traffic (search Ostend). Pieces of newspaper articles, reports are simply "copy and paste" or carbon copies without quote from his sources. Sure that some infos are correct but also a lot just gossips about aviation, secret services, traffickers, CIA , crook managers at LGG and you name it.
Sans vergogne Morice !
By the way if you click on Liège (I bet one cent you did it -joke!) Then you have seen the picture by Roger Bollen (MST spotter) subjet to copyright , Found on Image Shack...
Big crappy work but full of approximations, uncontrolled sources and messy layout. At the end I have a question: what the hell is MORICE trying to prove.
Thanks for the link because I have had fun reading him and especially comments of readers. Best regards. JCC
