Hi

I'm from germany and I really love contrail spotting!!
But I'm only 18 and at the very beginning of my spotting "career", so I have some questions:
1. I have an older telescope, Vixen R114S with 900mm, is this enough for good pictures?
2. Where can I find maps with the routes over southern germany (I didn't find anything with google)?

Can anybody help me?
btw very good pictures from all of you!

thanks

joni

Hi & welcome.
No experience with this scoop. 900 mm in combi with 114 mm diameter gives an F ratio of almost 8, this should be enough to gain high shutter speeds during the day, perhaps a bit problematic during the twilight hours.
The magnification seems also enough, at least to start with, afterwards perhaps a converter 1,5x or so could also do some wonders.

Concerning the enroute high altitude maps: presumable nothing free to found on the net, however have some maps, including those over S-Germany. If interested, could give it a scan, gimme a mail via my web.

Here one of last week, little before sunset on UL608: 9K-ADE

All frames of Atlas are freighters, some of them converted from pax a/c, but with windows left.
