UK Government sued for allowing US arms flights to Israel.

Post by SN30952 »

UK Government will face claims in the High Court that it is guilty of "aiding and abetting" breaches of international law by allowing US arms flights to Israel to use UK airports.
American arms exports to Israel which went via British airports could have broken UK export controls.
The use of Prestwick airport in Scotland to transport American-made arms to Israel during the Middle East crisis has sparked huge protests.

During the initial flights into Prestwick, the American planes apparently violated normal procedures and President George W Bush had to apologise to the Prime Minister.
Prestwick airport has been used for refuelling and crew rests for two chartered Airbus A310 cargo planes filled with GBU28 laser-guided bombs.
A news blackout imposed on the issue.

Meanwhile aircraft flying from Texas to Tel Aviv were diverted from Prestwick airport, in Ayrshire to RAF Mildenhall* in Suffolk, instead.

Margaret Beckett, the Foreign Secretary, promised to lodge a formal complaint with the US government.
Now High Court Judges have to decide.

On the other hand, the IDF says it discovered equipment it believes to be British in Hizbollah bunkers. (Not specifying who put it there !?)
That equipment would have been night-vision equipment. IDF believes it is British made equipment. UK sold goggles to Iran in 2003.

*The US air force has leased three bases in Britain - Mildenhall and Lakenheath in Suffolk, and RAF Fairford, Glos - for refuelling purposes.

It is as good as EL AL carrying weapons aboard passenger planes from AMS a few years ago. (maybe it is still going on)
