Weather forecast sites you can trust

Post by ILS25L »

Goodevening,
I have to go to LHR next week and migth be able to spend some time spotting on Wednesday 01.03.

Can anyone give me a good reliable site for weather forecasts at LHR because if you tap on Google you get several pages with all different forecasts.

I know it migth not be easy to predict UK-weather (as in Belgium) but does anyone has good experiences with a particular site ?

Hi Karl,

On which flights are you next Wednesday?

I'll be on BA389 outbound, and BA400 inbound.

Regards

Just a question, since when did weather forecasts ever become reliable? It seems that once I start to make plans on "good-weather" days, it always ends up getting cancelled due to Mother Nature!! :pang:

(your emoticon suggests you know well enough...)

True. I just wanted to verify it though. I'm used to seeing altimeter settings in inches of HG. Standard of 29.92". Am I to assume that the other units are the same as here (sm visibility, feet AGL for ceiling and such...)??

9999 meters = 10 kilometers, say 5.5 NM.
In a US waether report, 9999 will be shown as P6SM (plus 6 statute miles)

the ASI shows miles per hour, not knots..
correct me if I'm wrong but 1kt = 1 (nautical) mile per hour

But I must admit that the various weather reporting systems could be more standardised.

You are correct. Oddly enough, our visibility is in statute miles, not nautical. One more conversion we have to do over here. :x We also have our temps in celsius for aviation weather. In regards to the "P6SM", the only time you'll see that is in a TAF, a METAR will report actual visibility up to 10sm. If the visibility starts getting sketchy, we use RVR in feet. A typical ILS will take you down to 1/2 sm or 2400 RVR.
