are an explanation of the abbreviations used.
PNR: Passenger Name Record
RPK: Revenue Passenger Kilometer
GDS: Global Distribution System
FTK: Freight Tonne Kilometer

Here is another article I ran across regarding the sweeping change in the Airline Industry, LCC's or low cost carriers are taking over in all markets,
the old hub and spoke operations of the major carriers is fading into oblivion, and being replaced by direct flights. This is much more convenient and pleasurable than flying point A to B to C and maybe D.
