Wow, I've just read the topic in Luchtzak News
Since the ambassador of Iran is giving this news, I think this must be very reliable. He states "in a couple of months", I think just as Etihad this must be starting with the summer schedule, starting 30/03/05.
This is great news ! Finally BRU gets what it deserves as capital of Europe! I hope other big carriers will follow Etihad en Iranair example.
Looks like "former" BIAC was very busy behind the scene, and now we can see their results. I hope the "Aussies" will do the same and even better
PS/ Like "Themole" said in the Etihad topic > "Keep tuned because 2005 will be an exciting year for Brussels Zaventem Airport, ... just be patient."
Best Regards
Raymond

That's great new "Themole". That's the third carrier starting Long Haul Flight to BRU. (Etihad/Iranair/Ethiopian).themole wrote:I can confirm that Ethiopian will start-up Brussels operations soon.Skystef wrote: Also a yes for Ethiopean: they have asked slot arrangements for EBBR a couple of weeks ago.
Are there more coming to BRU? Hainan? China Eastern? Who will be the partner for asia flights of SNBA (operated by Airlines)?
May I assume that there will be more coming starting from the summer schedule ?
Best Regards

Of course Iran Air has potential trafic to the capital of EU.
Is n't Iran the next candidate country to enter the EU in ...hum.. the next 25 years or so ?
Meanwhile Iranair is of course more than welcome to BRU.
I suppose the route will be designed as a one stop route to begin with.
Anybody knows more about it or the frequency/type of aircraft ?
Let us dream : Why not a THR-BRU-LAX route ?
(There is a strong iranian community in LAX)

Well, that LAX connection doesn't sound so strange as it may seem. The The other Iranian airliner Mahan-Air has a partnership with LTU from Düsseldorf to USA.

Mahan Air – LTU “Connection Comfort”
Mahan Air in cooperation with interline partner LTU has once again established the most convenient (and economic) way to travel between Tehran and North America for summer season 2004. As of May 15th Los Angeles and as of July 2nd, Miami and Toronto are easily connected to Tehran with a stop -over of less than 3 hours on both directions in Düsseldorf International Airport. LTU operates the state of the art Airbus A-330 on Düsseldorf, Los Angeles, Miami, and Toronto routes.
Before you start dreaming, he A330 they talk about is not a Mahan plane but a LTU.
Mahan flies older A300-A310 (and other stuff that is not more welcome on European airports such as Tupolevs154)
So, coming back to Iranair, it is quite possible they follow the same kind of route: Teheran-Brussels-USA.
This is also comparable with Biman with its Dhaka-Brussels-JFK route.
Who would use this routing ?
The Iranians living abroad in the first place. All kind of businesspeople travelling to Tehran. And the Indians because there is a Mumbai (Bombay) connection.
If the USA route comes in place, I think it is a viable route.
Now comes the big question: who would do the USA extension? Not Iranair, I think if a Iranair plane comes closer than 1,000 miles to the USA shore, it is shot out of the air.
Could it be American Airlines in code share with SNBA? What a joke! The Americans flying for the Iranians. I have to see that.
The world is full of surprises.

Iran is not in war with America is it?
It is just an "evil" country ( W's terminology)
Is that reason enough to ban Iranair ...?
It's a bit tough I should think...
yeah yeah, a bit tough I know. You know what I mean. It is very unlikely that an American airline will go in cooperation with Iranair.
And talking about downing iranian civil aircrafts: you forgot the on purpose downing of the Airbus by the american missile carrier Vincennes
(July 3, 1988 : 290 die after two missiles are fired by USS Vincennes at Iran Air Flight 655 A300 Airbus flying at 13,000 feet over Gulf. )
But that is politics.
Anyway, I am curious how they gonna solve that dilemma.
