Charter flight specialist Monarch Airlines announed today that it is to set up a new base at Birmingham International Airport, creating 50 jobs.

 It will launch services from Birmingham to Tenerife & and Malaga in summer of 2005.
:o From Manchester to Almeria and Madrid and a third daily flight will be introduced to Malaga. The Madrid service will be daily and Almeria four times a week.
:) Monarch already operates scheduled services from Luton, Gatwick and Manchester to Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar.

Main aim of Birmingham Expansion is to help prevent people from the area having to travel to Manchester or Luton to catch flights and offer them lower fares
Peter Vella, business development director at Birmingham International Airport, said: “We are thrilled Monarch’s low fares scheduled arm has decided to launch its new base from Birmingham next summer.
“This is fantastic news for Midlanders wanting to travel from their local airport and we wish Monarch Scheduled all the best for the future.”
Seats, which start from £39 one way including taxes and charges, go on sale on www.flymonarch.com from today.

I hope Monarch doesnt rebrand into a low cost airline like others have . .

Although they didnt go low cost we already lost Britannia to change and The tui scheme really doesnt look to good here!

That said ... Ive flown with Monarch on a 757 from Stansted to Palermo, and Palermo to Luton on an A321 and must say what a great airline :D

Love the colours and loved the flights and have enjoyed watching them in luton for the last 11 years 8)

Birmingham will enjoy them im sure !

Forza 8)

Monarch at BHX. I guess that means more 757s in the 757 capital of Europe?
