ex-SN A340-300's to SW ?

Post by LX-LGX »

Air Namibia which recently replaced its Boeing 747-400 with an MD11 on lease from Swiss is in final talks to add 2 Airbus A340-300s previously operated by Sabena. The aircraft would be used for its Windhoek-Frankfurt route and would allow it to resume service to London Heathrow.

So it are 2 aircrafts of this list:
F-OHLP A340-211 ROYAL JORDANIAN 14 CFM56-5C2 1993-06-09 O F-WWJF, F-GNIB, OO-SCW, F-WQRF EX- SABENA
F-OJGF A340-311 AIR TAHITI NUI 385 CFM56-5C2 O F-WWJC, OO-SQA EX- SABENA
F-OJTN A340-311 AIR TAHITI NUI 395 CFM56-5C2 O F-WWJF, OO-SQB, C-GZIA EX- SABENA
F-OLHQ A340-211 ROYAL JORDANIAN 22 CFM56-5C2 1993-06-25 O F-WWJM, F-GNIC, OO-SCX, F-WQRG EX- SABENA

So it will be ex-ROYAL JORDANIAN or ex-AIR TAHITI NUI aircrafts.

If the A340's will be -300's like LX-LGX mentioned, then it'll be the Thaiti Nui planes which will go to Air Namibia. Those 2 A340-300 never flew under the Sabena name....

Don't forget the 2 SN A343's currently operated by LH (ex-OO-SCY and OO-SCZ). Both aircraft are now registered as D-AIMF and D-AIMG if I'm not mistaken. Those are the aircraft that will join the SW-fleet...

Are they going to keep their MD11 when the A343's arrive?

I think they will use one A340 for FRA and one for LHR. They know these 2 destinations are excellent for them: London because they need the British tourists, Frankfurt because the Germans still love Süd-West (Namibia once was German territory).

I am following Air Namibia because I have to go to South Africa in February.
The cost from Frankfurt to Johannesburg or Cape Town is about 600 euro. Alternatives from Düsseldorf, Brussels, Amsterdam, CDG, Heathrow all cost 800-900 euro.
There is a very negative report about them on Skytrax. Especially the run down state of the MD11 is a topic.
So, Let us hope they have the A340 in action in February.

Well I read some complaints about the EX-Sabena A343's in Lufthansa service, they where in a very bad condition too. Note that these will be the ones that will go to air Namibia...

I didn't knew that LH would already be giving them away...
