Jetstar Asia - Qantas makes headway in Singapore.

Post by Advisor »

Let us keep our eyes and ears open for the any day launch of JETSTAR ASIA. The new low cost airline from QANTAS.

Still in the inception and growth stage this new Singaporean low cost carrier which is scheduled to start A320 operations soon has further announced it plans to fly to Hong Kong, Jakarta, Manila, Pattaya, Shanghai, Surabaya and Taipei. Basically their aim is to fly anywhere 5 hours from Singapore.

Qantas is supporting this airline with many functions and the statistics is as Qantas Airways will own 49% and prominent Singaporean business men, Tony Chew with 22% and F.F.Wong owning 10% and an investment company called Temasek Holdings will own the remaining 19%.

Some news readings which caught my eye:

This airline is preparing to take delivery of its airbuses. Jetstar Asia will launch its first services by the end of 2004 operating a fleet of 4 Airbus A320 aircraft. By the end of 2005 JetstarSAsia will progressively take delivery of an additional 4 Airbus A320s. Specially designed this A320 offers the widest cabin of any single-aisle aircraft and this A320 will feature leather seating for 180 passengers

Looking forward to it 8)

Jetstar Asia Chief Operating Officer is Con Korfiatis.

For people who came in late:
Jetstar Asia's planned route network is ambitious compared with those of its Singapore-based rivals Valuair and Tiger Airways(Both of which started operations earlier this year).

Singapore's aviation authorities have embraced the growth of low-cost fliers and are building a passenger terminal at Changi Airport specifically for discount airlines. It is slated to open in 2006.
