New Airbus: A 350!!

Post by moons »

Hello,

I just read in the newspaper that airbus is about to launch a new aircraft to compete the 7E7. The A 350!
Can someone tell me more about this aircraft?

as reported by SN26567 in the latest news section https://www.aviation24.be/article6598.html
Airbus executives are voicing optimism that the company could decide by year-end to build an A350 passenger jet -- a potential threat to rival Boeing's 7E7 "Dreamliner."

Noel Forgeard, Airbus' chief executive, said he was optimistic Airbus' board would back a potential A350, which would be modified from Airbus' existing A330 wide-body jet, according to media reports. The board will discuss the project next week.

Earlier Tuesday, Airbus' chief commercial officer reportedly said he was hoping the company would be able to announce an A350 project by year-end.

Airbus executives have been in discussions on a possible A350. Before Tuesday, officers had said a decision on the plane could come by the end of the year. Forgeard has said Airbus could spend as much as 3 billion euros on a competitor for the 7E7.

On Tuesday, however, The Wall Street Journal reported that Airbus had even bigger plans for the project, with a possible investment of as much as 3.5 billion euros. Citing anonymous sources, the newspaper said the enhanced project would allow for new, more aerodynamic wings to improve speed and range.

Boeing's 7E7 is expected to go into commercial use in 2008. Boeing is designing the plane to be extremely efficient, and that will likely enhance its appeal for airlines, which are struggling with high fuel costs. The 7E7 is a midsize plane; Boeing opted on it instead of a super jumbo jetliner like Airbus' planned A380, a double-decker that will carry 555 passengers and is scheduled to go into service in 2006.

This aircraft could be a very good competitor to the 7E7 if it offers P&W engines because the 7E7 only offers RR and GE engines and the A350 could attract customers such as United and Northwest who usually buy aircraft with P&Ws.

Just my $0.02 USD.
Onward and Upward...

Now that airbus decided to build the A350 as competitor for the B7E7, i'm curious when Boeing will release their competitor for the A380...

Airbus A350

Post by bits44 »

Funny how Airbus now thinks that the 7E7 is a good idea and they should build a competitive aircraft.
But they are rehashing an existing aircraft, where the 7E7 is all new. Kind of closing the gate after the cow has gone. And where is Airbus getting all this money, their budgets for this project and the 380 are more than the budgets of some small countries. Its no wonder the U.S. thinks that Airbus is receiving unfair subsidies.

Wasn't the B737NG a re-design of the older B737 models to keep competing against the A320 family ?

To be honest I don't see why an airplane manufacturer shouldn't be able to try to compete up against a new model with a re-design as you call it. It might well work out.

let's not start a discussion about those "subsidies" again please.
