Soaring ATF prices in the local market....

The article mentions that the local market rates of ATf are based on global crude oil prices. Inspite of a cut in the excise duty on ATf in January 2004, sales tax on ATF has been on a rise. Consequently, domestic airlines have to raise their prices almost every other month.
Even though the budget-airline phenomenon has become quite a hit in India, travellers continue to suffer due to such erratic price hikes.
Do any of you notice such trends in ATF in your part of the globe?

India has a history of high taxes and duties. Believe my experience in chemicals! How many times has the country been cited before WTO?

hmmmm.....so what could be the solution for such a problem? what can the govt and the local oil companies here do curtail rising ATF prices and make air-travel affordable to the common man?
