Birdy Airlines activities integrated in SN Brussels Airlines
The activities of Birdy Airlines, the airline that operated SN’s longhaul services since Spring 2002, have been fully integrated today into SN Brussels Airlines. Over 40 Birdy employees, mainly pilots, are now working under an SN contract and the 3 Airbus A 330-300 aircraft have been added to the fleet of SN Brussels Airlines.
When SN decided to start up operations to the African continent in the spring of 2002, it appealed to the Belgian airline Birdy Airlines, which was created exclusively for this purpose. Birdy Airlines put 3 A 330-300 in service operating the African destinations on behalf of SN Brussels Airlines. Birdy also delivered the cockpit crew, whilst SN commercialised the flights, defined the inflight product and delivered the cabin crew.
The 3 A330-300 (OO-SFM, OO-SFO and OO-SFN) have been added today to the SN fleet and the Airline Operator Certificate (AOC) of SN has been extended.
Currently a "Mixed Fleet Flying" training programma has been launched which enables all Airbus pilots to become qualified for flying both the Airbus 319 and the Airbus A 330-300. Consequently the productivity of the flight crew will be optimised throughout the medium-haul and long-haul network of SN.
The maintenance of the Airbus A 330-300 has been outsourced to Sabena Technics : for a period of 3 years they will perform Line and Light Maintenance as well as the necessary engineering activities. Furthermore, the integration of Birdy Airlines has created some job opportunities in the Maintenance & Engineering Department of SN Brussels Airlines.

Interior refurbishments are planned for February 2005, and apparently there won't be another "Birdy airlines", although never say never! I also read on Luchtzak that the Avro's will get (cockpit) upgrades. ( http://www.regional-services.com/main_u ... 04_04.html and https://www.aviation24.be/postx6125-0-0.html )

I think the A319's are newer than the 737's, so for a business oriented airline that would be strange since they all seem to want to have the most modern fleet.TWA wrote:Did anybody else heared about the rumour that SN's A319 will leave on long term and will be replaced by vex 737's for the medium haul flights.
