Kuwait Airways will discontinue its 2x weekly KWI-AMS-ORD

Post by DC7-C »

This flight will be KWI-GVA-ORD instead. It appears that a main reason is KU will get landing tax exemption for 1 year. Now I have 2 questions:

1) For those familiar with BRU, does BRU--the capital of Europe--offer similar tax exemptions in order to attract long-haul traffic? (The last time I was in BRU in 2002, long haul traffic was pathetic compared to the past).

2) For those familiar AMS, why is it that some airlines are discontinuing long haul stopover thru it (KU now, SQ when they started their EWR-SIN non-stop)?

Thx

Welcome to Luchtzak, DC7-C.

Tax exemptions at BRU? That would be a dream to attract long-haul traffic, but this unheard of.

For AMS replaced by GVA, the explanation is simple. KU has always had a long-standing relation with GVA and the oil sheiks feel more at home in GVA than in AMS. I worked in Geneva for 5 years: I know what I'm talking about.

 Andre's reason is 1 + the fact that EU Commission bans any airport's tax exemption for a precise operator.

Hi folks!

Well i can't say that you guys are wrong.
Think the same. Indeed the long-haul
traffic is fallen down between 1999-2002.
As there use to come; Air Mauritius,China Eastern,in the summer
season a Corsair 747,or AOM DC10,...

But truly said, the last time the long-haul traffic is stabilizing
and even better, back recovering and increasing.
Look to Belgium Excel and TUI Belgium(i know that they are
there instead of Sobelair ,but they might expand at BRU.)
,and important; the new American airlines JFK flight.

So i think it will increase for a wild.

At least that's what i hope and think.
