I happen to be in Slovenia and headed to Maribor today where I made a quick stop at the airport, after the wine tasting :) . The airport is situated only a few kilometers from the city of Maribor but you need a car: no public transport between the airport and the city centre. The facilities looked quite new, hardly utilised though. There was no sign of commercial activity, only some training flights.

I can see the potential of the area: wine tourism, short-ski, culture and the cities of Ljubljana, Graz and Zagreb. Yet, I fail to understand what's behind the interest of a Chinese company in this region. Time will tell?

2018 is the EU-China Tourism Year (ECTY), a big market in China is waiting to visit Europe, I wrote an item on it. You can read it here: https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/air-b ... and-china/

In the last 12 months, Skyscanner’s Travel Insight software has shown that over 45,000 potential travellers searched on the leading flight comparison site for flights between Antwerp and Milan ‒ but the city pair is unserved!? Resurgent VLM Airlines, based again at Antwerp, could be a ready-made solution provider, or perhaps someone like bmi regional might be better suited to the city pair.

Maybe, if it can be considered as a "bussines" route

Not sure whether this was already mentioned here, but it seems that as from last Thursday Jan 18th, it is also possible with VLM to check in on-line. :)

This was not disclosed at the press conference, despite a question from one attendee.

Via Maribor or direct?
Can operate F50 from ANR to the Balcans? It seeme like an extremly long flight for F50. Or are there A320 planned for those routes?

Adding MBX-BEG (Belgrade, Serbia) would be a good addition and it was already discussed before. Of course with the transfer possibility at MBX.

Mind that in August 2017 VLM flown the following routes from Maribor to the Balcans:

MBX-SPU (Split, Croatia)
MBX-DBV (Dubrovnik, Croatia)

The A320s operate only charter routes or ACMI flights. I don't see them operate light routes to the Balkans.
