United mistakenly flies dog from Oregon to Japan instead of to Kansas City:

Dog Irgo is back home from Japan, chasing cats in Kansas City. United Airlines organized a private charter for the German shepherd:

And now a third pet incident in one week for United:

Already under scrutiny about a dog dying in an overhead bin and another dog being accidentally sent to Japan, United Airlines on Friday acknowledged its third animal-related mistake in a week.

A flight was diverted to Akron, Ohio, on Thursday after the airline realized a pet had been loaded onto the flight in error, airline spokeswoman Maggie Schmerin told CNN.

Flight UA3996 was carrying 33 passengers from Newark, New Jersey, to St. Louis, but the pet was due to fly from New Jersey to Akron. United told CNN the unidentified animal was "safely delivered to its owner."
United said it offered compensation to all passengers as a result of the diversion.

Well on the positive side, we haven't seen them beating a dog like a passenger.

Some "older" visitors here have probably flown on / worked on OO-SDX, a 737-300 in Sabena's fleet as from 15/09/1987.

This 30 year old lady is still flying, now with home base Caracas:
http://www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-b737-23773.htm
...but it now needs a few new tyres after a landing incident on 19th March 2018:

European Commission: “Safeguarding fair competition in air transport
• Ensuring fair competition for EU carriers for the benefit of consumers and workers
• Better mechanism to address alleged unfair commercial practices by non-EU countries

On Tuesday, Transport Committee MEPs backed a new law to set up a more effective complaints-handling mechanism to investigate possible unfair practices by non-EU countries, such as subsidies to non-EU airlines, preferential access to airport services or unfair pricing by non-EU country airlines.

If the honorable members of the European Parliament really want to protect the consumers, they should impose an insolvency policy for ticket sales by airlines. Just like the travel trade has since 1994 for packages.

Just a slight detail (I am not qualified to discuss the travel industry and its regulations, but you may well be totally right!) about the European institutions: do not confuse the Parliament with the Commission - the Commission is more or less the equivalent of a government, i.e. an assembly of ministers/state secretaries. But perhaps it was the cited article that brought you this confusion? I read "European transport MEP's" there, a term that does not really make sense with me.

I think "MEP's" are Members of the European Parliament.

It is written "European transport commission MEP's"...
Maybe working on a project presented/suggested by the Commission...

It should be European transport committee of the European Parliament.

So rather a project from the Parliament than from the Commission.

In my opinion, it's a project of the Commission that has to be approved by the Parliament, where it starts in committees before being voted in plenary.

It was indeed the "European transport committee" in the link. Sorry, my mistake.

That would make sense. I did contribute to the confusion, sorry.

That sounds like the "normal" way to go, indeed. But it is easy to get confused especially over terminology.

That small and cosy internal parliamentary committee is already a parliament on itself: 48 members (including one president and 4 vice presidents). Plus some 40 backups ("substitutes"):
http://www.europarl.europa.eu/committee ... mbers.html

Luckily many of them just go to the meeting room to sign off their presence, allowing them to cash in their meeting fee.

Completing the above, ET also starts today a new route to Nosy-Be, Madagascar, in a triangular via Moroni in the Comoros, using a 738 3x a week.

This comes in addition to the service to Buenos Aires that started on March 8th.

At least one safe airline operating in the DRC. Can you imagine flying from one city to another in the DRC via ADD for the sake of safety?

Err, flying safely in DRC ?
Methinks that the state of the runways and ATC are also part of the flight "safety".....

Besides, although I fly rather often and with pleasure with ET, I can't help but wonder if rapid growth is well coped with in terms of adequate training and resulting experience.
The same applies to TK for example.

A quick check with cabin crew, besides the "chicken-o-beef", may lead you to rank them as ICAO English level .. 3?
Put this a 4 for flight deck.

Africa, you luv' it or you leave it.

I wish they were but they don't do much to attract expats pilots, leave alone keeping them.

As to the airport I fully agree with you.
In a way, and when I switch to my "African mood", I prefer the old T1. Everything is done the African way, with a smile.

But true the T2 for international flights is overcrowded.
The Senator Lounge is, well ... better than having to sit on the floor inside the terminal.

This pic you see only half of it ...
