Aerolíneas Argentinas' 2nd 747-400 just arrived
LV-AXF, Aerolíneas Argentinas' 2nd 744, arrived last Saturday at Buenos Aires (EZE) and is being checked before starting operations.
Together with her sister, LV-ALJ, she will be flying EZE-MAD and EZE-FCO routes. Both aircraft are ex Air Canada.
Rumours say a 3rd 744 would be arriving before the end of the year.

Marcos

That leased aircraft came in operations for Aerolíneas Argentinas on last Feb 27. It carries 379 economy seatsand 42 in F & C-class.
25422 912 747-475 LV-ALJ Aerolineas Argentinas 24.01.2004 Active C-FBCA, N971PG
Formerly Canadian Airlines International from 22.04.1992, and since 29.03.2001 with Air Canada.
Air Canada had 7 of these B747-400's, Canadian Airlines International had 4. But which ones were transfered to AC is not clear.
Dave can you bring some light on this?
So I suppose the LV-AXF is also on lease basis?
El 747/400 continuará programado en la Ruta Buenos Aires-Madrid- Buenos Aires mientras se aguarda la llegada del segundo Jumbo, de una serie de cuatro, prevista para el próximo mes de Mayo.
That means that 4 B747 were foreseen? These ex-Canadian Airlines International perhaps?

25422 C-FBCA To Air Canada as C-FBCA on 15/12/2003 to Aerolineas Argentinas LV-ALJ
27827 C-FGHZ To Air Canada as C-FGHZ on 16/12/2003 to Philippine Airlines RP-C8168
The info that I have tells all 4 aircrafts were used by AC for more than one year.
Argentina welcome Luchtzak

Hola Argentina!
I lived in Bahía Blanca for 3.5 years
Have you flown Aerolíneas recently? The last time I had a very long flight with them from AMS via CDG and MAD to Rio and finally Buenos Aires, but didn´t like the service at all... I do however want to visit Argentina again, so just to get an idea of what´s available.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the welcome messages.
Now I'll try to clarify some of your doubts:
Aerolíneas announced a big fleet-renewal plan a few months ago. They plan to replace all 742s for 744s and all 732s for 733/735s.
LV-ALJ is former Canadian Airlines and so is LV-AXF. The renewal deal mentioned 7 744s. As of now we got 2, so that means we should see 5 more. The 3rd one, which would arrive by the end of the year, will be ex Canadian Airlines too. The next 4 are still unknown.
I flew Aerolíneas last June, from Buenos Aires (AEP) to Jujuy (JUJ) via Córdoba (COR). It was a 732. I had a great, uneventful flight. We were given a sandwich, a decent piece of cake and a drink in both AEP-COR and COR-JUJ legs. Each leg is about 1:20, so I can certainly not complain. Regarding Aerolíneas internationally, a relative of mine flew them to LGW via MAD a few weeks ago and she was really happy.
Re Aerolíneas-Austral merger: with the new colour scheme and AU moving to AR's counters at AEP, we can say it is almost completed. Both airlines still legalywise operate as different companies (Aerolíneas Argentinas S.A. and Austral Cielos del Sur S.A.), but some AU flights have already been given AR numbers. All AR flight numbers starting by 2 (e.g. AR 2xxx) are operated by Austral.
Finally, a rumour I got (but it's a rumour) is that the next A310 could be F-OGYS, ex Khalifa and leased by AR for a while some years ago. However, that plane is at Dresden waiting for a freighter-conversion. Another rumour is an A310 that should have been leased by PIA, but the deal didn't work. It is now stored at BRU. I will keep you informed as I get more news.

Marcos

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to make some small observations and corrections:
From the 49 second-hand Boeing airplnaes AR anounced they were leasing, only 4 are 747-400s. Two of them already arrived, the third is supposed to be C-GMWW. AC had three 747-433M when they aquired Canadian, which in turn had four 747-400 (one -4F6, now with PAL, and three -475s, all of which should be with AR January next year).
The second -475, which arrived at EZE last saturday, was supposed to be registred LV-AXF, but now it seems it will be LV-AXT.
As to AR and AU, it is not sure how far the merger will reach. They will continue to be two separate airlines in many aspects. AU won't get any of the "new" 737s, and will probably return their 737s as leases expire (beginning in a few months), while getting a further MD-83, maybe two. They already focus on mantaining the group's MD-80s, and are expected to begin international flights soon. Right now all AU-flights also have an AR code and are marketed only through AR.
Regards,
Carlos
P.S.: This is my first message at this forum. I hope I won't bother you too much with messages about AR and Argentine aviation.

Welcome to Luchtzak, Marcos AR1182. You are certainly not bothering us with news of Argentina. On the contrary! All true aviation fans are interested in what's going on in the other parts of the world.AR1182 wrote:This is my first message at this forum. Thanks for the welcome (though my name is Carlos..."Argentina" would be Marcos ).
Despite being mentioned on AR's website, the registration of the second 747-400 is indeed LV-AXF (sorry Marcos).
There are still strong rumours about an A310 that would arrive soon. It should be c/n 686, which wasn't taken up by PIA and is supposed to be stored at BRU. Have there been any movements or news regarding that plane lately?

On another note, the first 737-500 for AR has just arrived in EZE, after being ferried from TLS, via MAD, SID and REC, flown by AF cockpit-crews. It's still all white and registered in France (F-GJNY), and I guess it will take some weeks to put it into service (AR has just now issued a total of 40 vacancies for the new 737-500 line). But at least it arrived!
