Brussels Airlines' fifth Belgian icon livery finalists

Post by brabel »

Yesterday, the judges selected 5 semi-finalists for the new Belgian Icon livery.
This Thursday, SN will present the two finalists.

The 5 candidates are: Smurfs, Mercator, Art Nouveau, Marsupilami and Folon.

I say don't do the smurfs for now: SunExpress Germany has already a Smurfs plane (reg: D-ASXB), so that wouldn't be that original as there is already one in the skies.

Google.com shows the highest number of results for: the Smurfs. On top, they are already known quite well worldwide, ànd within a wide range of the population. And they will present better/nicer on aircraft photos that are taken from a distance.

That may indeed be a reason not to choose the Smurfs. But then, Brussels Airlines mostly operates to different airports then SunExpress Germany.

One of the requirements is that the concept has to be unique, so that isn't really the case when there is a similar plane flying around.

I would then bet on Marsupilami, mainly because it shows better on photos taken from a distance.

Could well be that SunExpress Germany has a contractual exclusivity for "Smurfs painted on an aircraft".

I liked the one of the Atomium, but oh well it isn't a candidate anymore. But I like the Mercator one too :)

I just googled the Sunexpress Smurfs one...
If you see the one from SN, it's way better imo. I think it really looks good. Also with the belgian flag added in the background.
I like the Mercator one as well.
Marsipulami looks a bit boring to me.
Art nouveau... I'm not sure
And Folon... it's a no for me.

So: Smurfs or Mercator :)

It's no longer in the skies. It has been diverted to Toulouse, where it has been blocking the runway for several hours, causing other diversions :)

Furthermore, the SunExpress doesn't show the Smurfs, but Die Schlümpfe :)

There were 103 ideas for a Smurf-plane and 21 for Mercator. So how do you know which ones are the semi-finalists? Are they published somewhere?

I had to google Folon and Marsudingskes, never heard of both of them. Folon probably because he's not dead that long (the longer an artist is dead the more famous he gets). Same with that Marsudingskes thing, it's probably more famous in the Wallonian part of Belgium, I've been a comic fan for most of my live yet I never saw it.

I'm going with Mercator or the Smurfs on the second place.

The 2 finalists will be released thursday and then it's up to the public to vote which one wins.

It's gonna be The Smurfs or Art Nouveau:
